TOM's Collection

Recommended Posts

Like everyone else, I've always wanted the whole set of cassettes...

Unfortunately, all I had were 2x Rewind, 2x Steeljaw (I don't know why my brother bought doubles), and one of Eject + Ramhorn.  These were accompanied by a Blaster.  (I still wonder why I rarely ever got Decepticons back in the day?... )

I need 3 cassettes to have all.  I need Dial, Zaur & Rumble.

I have none of Blaster's tapes yet. With my lack of G1 interest, I may never have any.

G1 is where its at brother.  Granted they have a heftier price tag than this bullBlot they have out now, but you gotta recognize that this is where what you see now came from.  For some, they are like living childhood all over again.  Im one of them. :tfgrin

To be honest with you, there are a few G1 bots that I never owned or played with that I still want. Bots like Hound, Sunstreaker, The purple reissue Galvatron ect.

Your Right, G1 started it all. But even as a 6 year old, I wished they were fully articulated like the cartoon. I wanted to act out the stuff I was watching on TV and I hated displaying my bots and they were all there just standing all still and looking nothing like the show. Dont get me wrong, they were at the top of the list of toys when I was young and I wanted them all. I liked changing them back and forth, but GAWD! I was sick of them not having elbows or knees or necks ect.

What really got me collecting again*Years after my original G1 collection was destroyed* is Beast Wars. They were a dream come true. Transformers that are posable and look like there cartoon selves. I've been collecting since. So by 2002, Dreamwave suckered me into buying the Takara reissues and then eventually other ebay vintage bots. I've always been a visual person. I like looking at things that look good or amazing, like special effects on a movie, art, good animation, People. So the new box art and inserts was just so appealing to me. Unfortunately with every purchase of these bots, I was hit with the same feeling I got as a kid, "Why did they make his legs stay connected? They could have easily given him working leg joints *thinks of G1 Inferno*"

I collected G1 bots for a good 8 months. Then I saw Binaltech Smokescreen, MP Convoy and a pic of Alt Sideswipe. My jaw dropped to the floor, my heart raced in disbelief and I couldn't wait for them. Alt/BT, MP, THS and other bots like them represent the true physical form of what I desired to have in TFs for most my life. Once I saw BT Smokescreen and MP Convoy, I felt like I wasted my money on G1 bots because the BT figs are what I really wanted for 20 years.

Basically, if I have to choose between a G1 toy and a G1 Redux toy, the redux fig will when every time. I give G1 its Props but IMO, I like the new stuff that's being made. Not buying them and only buying G1 to me would be like, refusing to play with a PlayStation 2 because I have a perfectly good Atari 2600 in the living room. (not saying all you buy is G1, cause I dont know that)

*I hated old video games too back in the day too cause they were ugly. *sigh* But I delt with it*

Nah you're right that is all I buy.Having stuff that many haven't seen is a kick to me.  I can go the store and get pretty much anything new that you got.  Its more of an individuality thing with me.  I can't begin to tell you how many people don't have a complete deathsaurus, A Minerva, a greatshot and they see mine a gawk.  But You can tell me you got a Mudflap and I can just go to Kay Bee and get it.  You follow what Im sayin?

I get cha. I will be honest again. I do like to look at Big G1 collections. I think it's cool when I see online pics where the collector has every one I remember and dont remember. I guess another issue I have with G1 is too, that I have almost every Character I want which is the Season 1 and 2 bots(and some Movie introduced bots). After those 2 seasons as a kid, I started feeling like you do about all current figs "Blah! Look at this plastic pile of crap!"

Let me ask you this though. Would you/Have you Bought 20th Prime, Alts/BT or maybe any Robot Masters or THS Convoys? You cant walk down the street and buy THS Convoy. *Maybe if you have a import store down the block  :redface *

Going back to that though, looking at everyones collections, 90% look the same to me except they have they're figures posed differently or setup different.  But figurewise, looks the same.
