Easy reason why Japanese fans didn't like...

Recommended Posts

I agree with terrorcon Blot and I go as far as saying Japanese audiences are too xenophobic and dislke anything outside their tried and dested formulae.

Seeing how the Japanese repeat everything ad naseum I think you got a point.

Terrorcon Blot raises excellent points there. The Japanese only like a cartoon if there is some combining gimmick.

However, Primal was not as flawed as the later Primes. They actually needed a super mode and combining with other Transformers to get them trough the battle. Primal actually did everything on his own.

And the Fuzors did not really need to disguise themselves as there were no other sentient lifeforms on the planet to hide from. Not all of them are good but Silverbolt is one of the best Beast Wars figures.

I don't think we need to worry about Transformers being "robots in disguise" anymore.... they abandoned that concept as soon as they introduced the Dinobots in 1985 IMO.

That idea kinda vanished at the start of G1.

Prime-''We're ging to disguise ourselves so the humans won't see us''

Bumblebee-''But we'll miss convient plot twists that way''

Prime-''I see....Quick, call Megatron and tell him to find an oil rig''

I love Beast Wars myself, but it was made into a campy dumber show in japan.

Also, omeone complained about Primal saying Primus instead of God. What's wrong with that. Why should alien robots belive in our God?

Just becuse a show comes from a country dosn't mean that all fans from said county like it.

Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo are generaly hated among japenses fans

Japanese fans hating BW is news to me.  Though if the dub was bad, then I can understand.  Dialogue is one of the most important aspects of any show from my perspective.

But in every other regard it was vastly superior to any of the Japanese, or other western, TF shows.  And that's even if the Japanese show dialogue was at a Shakespearian level; which given how they dropped the ball in every other aspect, I would find that impossible to believe that it would be.

As for the toys, I can understand that as well.  I'm a bit of a stickler for 'disguise' modes that are passable.  And I certainly prefer Big Convoy to either of the TM Primals.

But if BW was so hated in Japan, why have the two leaders represent half of their firt batch of new molds for the Japan-only RM line?  Heck, the fact that all of the inaugural new RM molds were characters from western TF shows leads me to believe that the Japanese prefer our shows to theirs.

I agree with that last paragraph. If Beast Wars was a flop, then why have so many different versions of Optimus Primal and why make the Beast War characters into figure in the Robot Masters line? Something doesn't add up.

Beast Wars and Beast Machines were the best shows ever. (Followed by G1 but that is my opinion.)

Both represented the best Transformers had to offer. The toys were awesome and had cool gimmicks.

Of course many of the jokes (Optimus Primal's imitation of Superman in "Victory", Rhinox and Inferno imitating rock'n sock'm robots) are not understood by the Japanese as they may not have seen the shows that are parodied.

And a lot of jokes are lost in the translation as well.

However, Primal was not as flawed as the later Primes. They actually needed a super mode and combining with other Transformers to get them trough the battle. Primal actually did everything on his own.

I think they mean his character was flawed. ie: he had an inferiority complex towards Optimus Prime. Wheras the latest Primes are just paragorns of virtue and power.
