Guide to create transparent .gif images

Recommended Posts

Here's what I got. I am starting to get good in making gifs and found some good methods in doing it. But I was wondering if anyone here is good at creating gif animation? If so, I was thinking that Hightowers visor should have a gleam of light streak across it. Can anyone do this?

Then do it!  :tflaugh

I can't find any effects in Image Ready, where are the text effects like lighting going through it and stuff? Well anyway, see what you can do about that motion glare.

Oh, sorry about that, I got the 2 mixed up.  :tdown

not as fast as i wanted but it works

Nice Blitz. Looks perfect and just the way I wanted it. The repeat could also be slowed down a bit, but I don't think you can slow down frames without adding some in. Thus making a larger file...

Saved.

Well if you where here when I first registered I talked about what my name meant.

It means TransFan#1 as in the first person with the name, then there could be a #2, #3, etc.

Alright, I thought I would post this since some people might not know how to do it.

How do you create a .gif image like the one below with Hook cut out?

hightower0010ls.gif

Well its pretty easy. I'll teach you how to do that and save your images at the highest quality too. This is all done in Adobe Photoshop 6.0. Yes, I know its an old version, but still works and I am currently downloading 9.0. But lets continue on.

First, save the image below, this will be your test image. Its nice and clean and sharp. So it'll be the basic level to doing the above and easiest starting point for learning correctly.

Load the above image in adobe. Then use your Rectangular Selecting Tool (See Below) and drag/select and copy the whole image. After that, close the image and go to "File/New".

Once there select the following on the new subscreen... Then hit ok, then go to "Edit/Paste" and paste Hook back into a new blank canvas with the transparent background.

Now with your Magic Wand, see image below. You can select how many differnet colors to accept. If you put it on 1, it'll only select 1 unique color from start position on the image. The more you add to the number the better it can cut out pure white background images. But too much, like 250 setting can be harsh. I usually keep it on 20-40 for white backgrounds.

Hook should now look like this. If he doesn't read the next step!

You are probally wondering what those dark color squares are? Well that is the clear Transparent Canvas. You can adjust them to help work on clear-type images. Go to the following screen to see how it works.

Do the following above, to see this new Subscreen below. The 2 large squares are the 2 colors you can adjust to any color for the clear canvas background. For Hook, since there are some visible white pixels, its best to put in on a dark colors so you can see those white little pixels!

Now, for those white little pixels left behind that the Magic Wand didn't get. I use the Eraser on a 1 pixel size and "Pencil" Setting. Just start taking them out 1 by 1. Some you can do a line of, instead of one little tiny pixel at a time. But this is the best method so you don't harm the real image. For this Hook image, I take out all the white pixels and anything that seems bright. You must remember that your final product could be viewed on a white background on the internet or a dark background. So getting all the bright pixels is best for the darker backgrounds on the internet? Yes, cause they will seep up and ruin your good work.

Now what is the best way to save the image? See the image below and go to "Save For Web".
