So, with all the talk about "seven on each side" of the movie, it got me to thinking--just who are the essential TFs for each side? Like, say, they have to put together a crack team in order to do something or other, who are the seven TFs that would be taken along? Optimus Prime and Megatron get a free pass since they're the leaders, but who else would make the cut?

G1 -wise, Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, Shockwave, Devastator (ok, so there's 7 here), Ravage, and Buzzsaw for the Decepticons, Optimus Prime, Prowl, Perceptor, Grimlock, Jazz, Bumblepest, and Jetfire for the Autobots.

Depends on what year(s) you're limiting yourself to.

But I'd say:

What's with all the "Jetfire"? I don't see him as essential. Hell, I'd pick Omega Supreme before Jetfire/Skyfire. Not that I'm knocking your opinions. :P I'm just wondering why he would be as important.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Jetfire doesn't rely on magical floating pieces in order to transform.

Autobots:

Optimus Prime (duh)

Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime (teenage angst/atypical hero)

Kup or Ironhide (crotchety old timer)

Bumblebee (annoying little brother type)

Arcee (token female)

Jazz (token 'black')

Wheelie (because he's just TOO annoying, you can't get rid of him)

Decepticons:

Megatron/Galvatron (duh)

Starscream (to cause evil angst)

Soundwave/Laserbeak (to spy)

Shockwave ('cus it's a shock to only have one hand to wave with)

Rumble (token thug)

Skywarp & Thundercracker (token dumbass villains)

generic seekers (cannon fodder)
