Bay and Orci Speak

Believe me I respect the fans. But I just want you to give me a chance because I'm working with some really talented artists to create this vision. But it is a vision that allows for growth, change, improvement and surprises. Looking back at the history of Transformers, remember there has been tons of change and improvements over the years.

Hopefully this "vision" is better than "The Island"...if I remember correctly it didnt fare to well.  Correct me if Im wrong.

Never saw it.... though I admit that I did like The Rock. As for the rest of his "oeuvre".... uh yeah

*Secretly liked Armageddon.*

Oops...  :inhrf

I like the fact that the robots will completely fit into the human world. It will make it more believable in the long run to people who are not TransFans already. I still think the characters personalitys will resemble their G1 personalities and that's all that really matters to me.

Before I saw beast wars  I only liked G1 and RID, since beast wars came to dvd after they were over. Beast Wars really opened me up to the awesomeness of the beast eara. I think the BW G1 connection was probably intended from the beginning since megatron did steal the golden disks. the disks story wasnt really brought back into play until the beginning of season 2 when dinobot realized that they were on the right planet.  So I tend to think that the connection was thought of from the beginnnng.

As for why Prime is such a beloved character? It probably had something to do with his death and how suckie Rodimus Prime was. I remember as a kid wanting him and megatron back. Megs has a little of the legacy, but starscream is probably the most remembered G1 decepticon. Personally I am sick of all the suckie Optimus Primes lately!

The G1 connection wasn't there at first, but it very quickly entered the show after the writers saw the insane fan reaction to "the great war" which Primal referenced in the first episode.

The only problem of course is that by retconning themselves like that, they left very little actual time (300 years) between the G1 era and the Beast era. Which didn't exactly fit in so well with later references to "ancient" Autobot technology etc., since the Ark wasn't considered "ancient" by the Transformers during G1. This 300 year gap is especially problematic in Beast Machines, since that show was written from the perspective that G1 happened *eons* before BM.

but anyway

do we know the exact year BM took place? it's possible that even tohugh it had the BW characters, it could have taken place eons after G1

Let me start by saying that I'm your typical 30 year old G1er.  I believe that TF only exist today because of the immense popularity that started back in 1984.  Anything that has come out or will come out, will inevitably be compared to G1 because that's where it all began.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not, it's just the way it is.

That being said, I don't expect the characters to be direct versions of their counterparts of 20+ years ago.  In order for this film to be the success I'm hoping it will be, it needs to have a contemporary if not futuristic feel to it.  For example, let's say Sunstreaker is in the new movie- Lamborghini(sp?) doesn't even make the Countach he was modeled after (to the best of my knowledge).  They could make him a Murcialago (again sp?).  Jazz could be a Porche GT3.  Anyway, I think you get where I'm going with this.

Thanks for listening-

I doubt the Transformers would still be "immensely popular" if it weren't for Beast Wars jump-starting the concept.

well... that's a good question. You would think that Primal and his crew would have set the transwarp drive on that Autobot shuttle to get them back to the right time when they got back home to Cybertron. They never explicitly said so, but you would think they'd done that.

But then Rattrap is surprised to find out that Nightscream has a built-in DNA scanner, a feature which was apparently given to all Cybertronians while Primal's crew was "gone". Of course, when you're gone because you went back in time, when you come back not time would have elapsed at all. Then again, you could get around that by saying "well maybe Primal's crew was in space for a long time." Even so, the fact that they had no knowledge at all that a planet-wide upgrade was happening in their absence...

What I'm getting to is: we don't know if Primal's crew arrived on Cybertron at the right time. They could have arrived a lot later than they were supposed to. (But this isn't a requirement of the story because Megatron got there before them anyway, and presumably had enough time to do everything he did before the Maximals showed up.) But "eons" later? That's a stretch.

Bob Skir always envisioned BM as taking place a loooooooong time after G1 though. Which is why the Maximals are constantly surprised to find that things from the G1 era are real and not just "legends". It's been that long.

I have no real answer to the problem other than to adjust the time of Beast Wars... move that forward into the future (waaaaayyy forward) and everything works out fine. Except for the existence of Ravage... he'd have to be the oldest Cybertronian on the planet.

crap

That might be true, but I submit that there would never have been BW without G1.

:roll

I'm just going to say this. Whatever Bay and Spielberg decide to do with Transformers it's bound to be a vast improvement from what was known as G1. G1 started Tfs, began the mythos, gave us the characters. Everything since has been an improvement in some way or other. Beastwars/Beastmachines gave us a decent story arc, and well developed characters, and A/E/C though in a lot of ways a step back gave us pretty much the same. In my opinion anyway.

Lets let Bay, and Spielberg do their jobs and kindly stop forcing G1 nostalga at them. I really don't want to sit through a movie where Megatron attaches a hose to a vat of oil and magically creates Energon. That IMO does not translate well into a movie.
