Bay and Orci Speak

Recommended Posts

Michael Bay's once again posted on his official message boards HERE:

The prep for the movie is going well. The military looks like it is going to support the film which is a big deal in giving the movie scope and credibility. The Pentagon has always been great with me because I make our military look good.

All the posts and talk about the original voices --- could we just let it rest for a while? I heard everyone, I'm thinking about it. We are reinventing how the robots look, transform and move - Remember these are the most realistic Transformers you will have ever seen. They have to fit completely into the human world to make this live action film credible. I have shown the animatics and some of the hundreds of drawings - TO THE MOST RELIGIOUS OF FANS - they tell me they are "mind-blowing" and "take it to a level they never considered" - I guess that's good? Time will tell.

Believe me I respect the fans. But I just want you to give me a chance because I'm working with some really talented artists to create this vision. But it is a vision that allows for growth, change, improvement and surprises. Looking back at the history of Transformers, remember there has been tons of change and improvements over the years.

I'm working on third act action, and if you could - what would you imagine for great robot action?

Talk to you soon,

All the best, Michael

Following up on that, Roberto Orci popped into DM.net to accept his SPAMMY AWARD. With it he dropped an interesting titbit to follow on from his announcement that size shifting has been dropped from the movie:

It was brought to my attention that I won a spammy! Thank you, everybody!

To show my thanks, let me say that Soundwave will NOT be a helicopter!

See the original post or join the discussion HERE.

So, no size shifting and no helicopter. That means there's no hint as to what Soundwave will now be.

Everything to play for?

this is not a line that i would agree with

for soundwave how about him turning into a heavily armored communications van. this would definately work for him since tfmaster did 2 rather amazing kitbashes of soundwave and soundblaster from energon ironhide.

as for rumble and frenzy perhaps a motorcycle for those 2  you know like what ransack turns into from cybertron

Posability. I like that.

i didn't mean the toys, i meant the characters.  TF is a toy driven franchise, yes, but there is a reason we have the TF:GD topic; because we care about the characters too.  And i don't think we've seen any better characters than we did in TF:TM and BW, BM.  Since then they've all been forgettable even laughable

I wouldn't interpret Bay's comment quite so literally.... he only means that the brand has changed and evolved and grown over the years... and he's saying this to get the fans to understand that this will not be G1 redux.

Fine by me.

and why not?  That's the premise we've all been going by.  Yeah some robots won't be present and yeah some modes and forms will be changed, but it has always been our assumption that we'd be dealing with the g1 characters.

Well that's what an assumption is... "an assumption". If I were you, I would listen to what the actual director of the movie is actually trying to tell you, and forget about your assumptions. You may avoid a lot of disappointment that way.

i see no reason to make a TF movie that isn't a g1 TF movie.. that'd be like making a spiderman movie about Ben Reily (spiderman's clone for all you non SM fans :tflaugh), or like Making a He-man movie with Dolph Lungeren (:redface).

Whether or not you see a reason for it is irrelevant... it's pretty clear that they're going to do new things with the brand rather than revisit the past. They've been dropping not-so-subtle hints like this since day 1, but it's like the fans are just in denial about it and only hear what they want to hear. As if Michael Bay doesn't speak for the production?? He's the flippin' director.
