While he's a bit ugly, he's still a cool figure to own. I waited a while before getting this one, but I'm glad I finally did get it.

never really crossed my mind to get him.... if I'm gonna buy a brick, he's got to come with a heaping helping of nostalgia.

I actually used to use MW Op as a substitute Ultra Magnus for a long time 'til I got the reissue :thumb

He's a prime so at least he rates somewhere on my "desired" list

I wish I still had the article, but it was in a toy magazine in the mid 90's, might've been Toyfair or Toybox or something...  Anyway, they were talking about the just released Machine Wars line, and said that Hasbro was originally intending to re-release the Thunderclash mold in G2 as Ultra Rodimus, and had a whole backstory about how Hot Rod was ambushed by Decepticons and left in critical condition, and when Ultra Magnus found him that he new he wasn't going to be able to get Hot Rod back to the base in time before he would die, so he merged Hot Rod with himself to save him and they became Ultra Rodimus.  As a Hot Rod/Rodimus fan I'm glad that never actually happened :tfgrin

Nowadays however I prefer to think of MW Op & Megatron as the cybertronian precursor modes of BW Op & Megs.  But that's just me

He would have looked better with a faceplate, I'm thinking. It didn't help that they just used G2 Laser Prime's art and revamped it. That kind of sets you up for something good.

I thought you didn't buy into nostalga? teh contradiction :eek

Wow, that is lame. Glad it never flew because Hotrod would have never recovered.

I don't think he did anyway.
