Toy Fair: Alternators Mirage, Optimus

Recommended Posts

This is kind of off topic... but have you "guys" noticed that they changed the license plates.  At least I just noticed the change.    Anyway... is the Prime figure going to be more expensive since it is bigger?  Just asking because of the comparison to the Sigma figure.  I don't know if there is a price difference between those figures.  I was going somewhere with that... but my ADD kicked in.

Yes we've noticed the license plate change.

Yes Prime's gonna be the same price as the other Alts.

they will be mine no matter how they look

*just a completist kind of answer sorry*

mirage will be mine for the reason me and my mate collect model cars 1:18 scale and he recentlt got th original gt4o and this kicks its ass

Only looking at Mirage, but as usual my impression has deteriorated since the earlier prototype.  I think a big part of it is that the color never seems to do justice to the amount of detail that's on the prototypes.  At least the color scheme is about right, but that bot mode looks really awkward.. like he's trapped in a cardboard box..

I think Mirage looks awsome. the Paint scheme makes it look better IMO. That deep blue is sweet. if only it can be replicated on the final toy.

My son has a 1:24 Ford GT in the same colors... that's some shiny metallic paint (at least on the toy).

I think at one of the Hasbro boards at Botcon it was mentioned that it wasn't so much the external physical dimentions of a figure that determined cost, as it was the weight of plastic used.  Even though the Dodge Ram pickup is a bit larger than any of the other Alts, a pick-up is mostly just empty space, therefore it wouldn't surprise me if Prime were close to the weight of the other Alts - and able to come in at the same price point.

There are two different price classes for Sigma 6 figures, $10 and $15.  The figures themselves are the same and come with roughly the same number of accessories, with one exception - the $15 figures come in the "footlocker" packaging.

With the emphasis on weight, it makes me wonder how much of a figure's price is the shipping cost from China.

I wonder that too

Weight and complexity of design - its no surprise at this point that Optimus Ram is quite a bit simpler than most of the other alts.

(of course less hinges and screws would also make it less heavy)
