TFQ2

Recommended Posts

TFQ2, Transformers Quake 2.  That other posting about games made me think of this game again...

I once upon a time tried to use screen grabs and skined to make some comic book scenes and shots.  Was pretty good too.  Teadious as heck though...

Me and my buddy LinkCW...good old days...

I loved that mod. Someone really needs to make a mod like that for one of the newer game engines.

Its a shame that so far nobody came up with a commercial version of this game.

I think they are trying too hard with the stupid gimics like find all the minicons and what not, and could do well with a game like this.

The good old days.  This game had its obvious problems, it didn't work 100% of the time, crashed a lot but when it did work, it was great stuff.

Anyone could work on the game, either making a simple repaint, or totally new character, complete with transformation ability.  Anyone could take the skin pict in PAINT and rework it.

Secondly, the maps could be custom made as well.  A bunch of them were awesome.  I especially remember the AUtobot Crypt and the Cybertron landscape, complete with Unicron's head floating in space...

Third, the community was a lot like this place, heck the screen name I use here came from TFQ2.com.  Only difference, once in awhile there was a league night and a bunch of fans could get on line and kick the can with each other.

Its a shame that they never made a commercial version of the game.  It didn't need something too complex.  Some customizable skins, a few decent maps on line...and US.

Oh yea, check the nifty transformable character from the game...

Damn wished they'd do something for the quake 3 engine so i can try it out on RTCW (return to castle wolfenstein)

You need a working copy of Quake 2

the patches downloaded that make it work properly

and then the TFQ2 main game, upgrades and patches, plus extra skin packs and such to make it work...

The basic game reworks the enemies of Quake 2 into Decepticons, you are sideswipe.  Transforming the enemy stops shooting at you so you can sneek up on them, transform and kill, even bump them to death in car mode.

You can face, hoards of jet bots

Soundwave was pretty nasty.  I think Laserbeak is around as well.

Can use cool items like Primes blaster, Megatron's gun, Prowl's shotgun, standard laser gun, sideswipes rocket pack, Starscreams gun...all with the proper sounds, and look pretty sharp as objects and in use (for example, picking up Megatrons gun, you see his arm and hand reach out in front of you, fist clenches and your on the hunt with the biggest cannon on the planet.  BFG BLAM!!!! watch em die!

Oh yea, Wheeljacks rocket launchers work pretty cool, hound had his launcher around but I never got it to work.

Energon cubes, Mirage inviso power, matrixes and cans for health and what not...

GOOD STUFF>

I used to use the Prowl skin when I played. Still didn't help people hit me tho. I loved the gun mesh.

I attempted to make a Transformers mod for Quake 3. I got permission to use the Jazz and Skids (among other) models that you can find on Polycount/Fileplanet. I ran into a problem with the game engine, whereas it was almost impossible to create certain areas. And I mean the level editor. I had started 2 levels, one was the Autobot shuttle from the movie, second was the Quintesson Judgement chamber.

I also attempted a Doom 3 mod, but I couldn't do anything besides texture replacement since my monitor (at that time) couldn't handle the screen resolution that the editor required.

I may try to build a TF mod for ES4 Oblivion when it comes out. I have the Quake 3 mod screenshots somewhere... Here are the Doom mod screenshots:

The last working build before the map got corrupted. This is if the player were to stand against the wall, below the rim that had stairs that went up that lead to the judge. Facing towards the long hallway that Kup and Hot Rod are escorted down at the beginning of that scene. You can't see off to the left were the containment cells, and to the right was an access door that had stairs to get to the upper portion.

I do not have any pictures of the Ark or any map/bsp/pk3 files for the Quake 3 mod. Model and gun from screenshots are the EPIC 40K Space Marine and Boltgun (Machinegun mesh replacer).

I used to play the Elite Force game, I think that was based on the Quake 3 engine and all.  They had all sorts of skins people made, I remember playing as Jazz from time to time.  Even had Scat Man's voice.  Did not Transform though.

I don't think I remember any other TF characters for that.

I do remember someone was crafty enough to rewrite the Jetfire skin from some Macross game and incorporate it into TFQ2.

I don't think I even want to talk about TFQ1 or TF DOOM.  Were interesting for their time, but by far the most outstanding shooter like these was TFQ2, especially since one could transform (I assume was based off the Heretic dive roll mode)

I think I will see if I can get the skined to work over the weekend (snow storm is coming, and my wireless connection is having issues) and make some comic scans.
