If it doesn't transform then who cares

Recommended Posts

I don't understand what the problem is with non Transforming Merchandise.

It hasn't been just a toyline with a 30 minute commercial since a few months into it's first year when the mythos and characters became more popular than the toys themselves.

Even then HasTak were making millions in non toy products that sold because they resembled a loved character.

Much like a statue of Prime doesn't Transform, a Wolverine statue doesn't pop it's claws, a Batman statue doesn't have a working utility belt, and so on.

They just represent the look or essence of characters people like.

Same with snow globes, chess sets or anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with people being into Transformers solely for toys,  but the name has been about more than just toys for a very long time, and those who are into the other aspects would like merchandise that isn't limited to action figures.

Hey, some of us buy shirts and stickers and they don't transform.  It is what is cool to each individual.  I personally have waves 1-4 of HOC and a couple of busts.

I don't really DISlike the non-transforming statues, etc.  It's just that I consider my money better spent to get a TF that actually DOES transform.  However, I am a sucker (pun intended) for keychain flashlights, lollipops, backpacks, posters, etc. that are based on TFs.  I about wet myself when I saw an Optimus Prime cookie jar on Ebay a few months back.  I ran and showed my wife, and decided not to bid after seeing her reaction. :)

I like all the non transforming realated stuff! I have all the Hard hero Busts and statues of G1 figures. I have most of the G1 japanese mini PVCs, and i have all the hasbro heros of cybetron PVCs.  I also have the Takara Mega PVCs of Megatron, Starscream, Rodimus Prime, and both anime and metallic Prime! I also have all the original G1 Japanese Decoy Box Sets :-) I have the G1 board game, a few g1 3d 'Transformable" puzzles, lunch boxes, head bobbers, airfreshners, stickers, original books, posters, lithographs...:-)

The only thing i want and dont have is the train set and I wish the Made a Mega PVC of G1 Galvatron :-(

:clap  :pfx Just because it doesn't transform doesn't automatically mean it's not cool.  I, too, have the Hard Hero busts and statues (except Rhinox) and most of the Palisades ones.  There's too much awesome stuff out there.  I even have the steering wheel cover on a shelf in my toy room.  If they make a chess set and it's relativly affordable I'll pick that up too... :clap

I too have the steering wheel covor and floor mats somwhere.....i used them then took them out to save them.  I dont have any palasides stuff though...I thought their stuff was ugly ...

The only statues that I don't care for are Hard Hero and Palisades ones.

And it's not beacuse they don't look nice, it's because of the $100+ pricetag.

* :luv to PVC's*

hmm...basically, when I buy a TF I want him to transform and I'm not interested in the other merchandise.

But....(and it's a huge one)....I will admit that there are some statues that I wouldn't mind owning because they give a very life-like display of a character in a great action pose.

I actually believe that the statues, PVC stuff, et. all is more designed for the "serious collector," or someone who is trying to show homage to his childhood.

After all, many of the "Generation X" crowd have grown up to be quite a bit more wealthy, with more disposable income than their forefathers, and they are more attached to their childhood. By buying a statue, you celebrate your childhood without having someone go "Hey, why do you have a toy on your desk?"

Not for me, though. I don't mind having toys on my desk. ;) Well, sorta, but that's another thread.

I think I agree with this.... but there's too much of me that likes to play with toys still. The statues do look cool though; my problem is that so few of the characters chosen have been ones that appeal to me personally.

personally, i wouldn't mind some more toys of Quintessons.
