Here's the thing : of course Spielberg, Bay, and all the other players are going to say they're big fans.  If they said "Hey, I never heard of this before, but I just signed up to make a movie out of it" would ANYBODY have any confidence in the chances of a decent movie?  I know I wouldn't.

Actually, I could be mistaken, but I'm sure it was Bay who said, he didn't really know much about Transformers, but liked the whole disguise and secret war aspect.

And he's not the first, I remember Bryan Singer saying something along the lines  of not being interested in mutant superheroes, but being sucked in by the prejudice angle.

And personally, that gives me more confidence than someone saying they're a fan, not less.

I do agree with you that this film won't all be deep and meaningful, but I think it may lean that way in places a little more than you'd think, at least in the usual Hollywood way Bay's films do.

Let's hope it's not TOO deep and meaningful -- he tried to be more like that with Pearl Harbor...ah...need I say more? :tflaugh

If Peter Cullen isn't the voice of Optimus Prime, it's doomed.  That is the one thing that will make it count for the fanboys.

You think Cullen really could have that kind of impact if not chosen for this role? I mean, that sounds like the entire fate of the film hinges on one casting choice, Dies.

First of all, ONE POINT PER POST PLEASE

jeebus, like I'm gonna read all that stuff

Anyway, I just think that since we're fans, we tend to get a bit insular and "forget" what life outside the fanboy bubble is like. And when that happens we tend to overestimate our own significance a bit. Of course the producers are going to tell us that they're interested in pleasing the fans -- I believe that they are, but they're also interested in a lot of other things as well, like reaching a broader audience and making a movie that non-fans will want to see.

I just think a lot of this angst could be resolved if we would just take a deep breath and plunge back into the real world for a moment, to see what ordinary people have to say about all of this. You may be surprised.

The only thing about that is, most "ordinary people" have no idea who Cullen or Chalk are, and could care less who's cast as Prime. At least, the more casual non-hardcore TF fans are probably that way.

:inheek  threre's gonna be a Transformers movie?  :eek :eek2

I hope they put the minicons in it and skylinx oh yeah and itf they had power keys that would be awesom

The dude who played a German nihilist in The Big Lebowski???????????????

saberwolf

yeah he also played Lev Andropov the  Russian Cosmonaut in armegeddon and satan in the movie constantine. i swear the guy has not only got what it takes to  voice megatron for the live action movie but to take him completely beyond his character's role in a way like what they did for his character with the war within comics.

im talking a megatron who's voice is quite literally evil incarnate itself.

:inheek  threre's gonna be a Transformers movie?  :eek :eek2
