THE OFFICIAL BAY AREA BBQ HUNTERS THREAD

Recommended Posts

This may be heresy, but have you guys tried Armadillo Willy's?  Don't expect awesome barbecue, but it's basically "average Texas barbecue" which is better than "no Texas barbecue."  They're online: http://www.armadillowillys.com/

There's one down the street from the office here and we go there once a week for the tri-tip sandwiches.

sorry to hear of the not so tasty expirience from CF&R's R'SONGS. i gotz to go wit WJ tho, you can hit or miss on any given day. i prefer them over brother's simply because the last time that i got some ribs @ brothers, they were just too tough. believe it or not, i couldnt even finish my meal. it might of been that it was just rushed and cooked over higher heat. but none of us will ever know now.

if you guys wanna add the big type franchise's like armadillow's to the search, i would definitly suggest either Tony Roma's or even Claimjumpers. i have had slightly above average expiriences the last time i visited each place.

word to the wise, those places can hit or miss big time too. on a side note, it just isnt the same as going to a little whole in the wall soul food joint!

we should rename this thread to sumthin like:

"THE OFFICIAL BAY AREA BBQ HUNTERS THREAD"

the place where you can discuss great BBQ finds while you were out hunting for your transformers. (had to tie it in, right?)

I have been to the one in San Mateo. Its okay. I agree it is better than nothing. Its no substitute for  Brother In-Law's. I would put Catfish and Ribs above them.

Anyone know of any other good places?

Amen! That is exactly why loosing In-Law's is such a bummer.

What I dont get is why? There was always a decent line of people when I would go there.

I'd be *way* down for that. I had no idea this was going to be such a long thread... I guess TFans like the rib-meat.    :tfevil

We could start a Soul Food place that sells TF's in the old Brothers location and name it

...

wait for it...

DAD's BBQ in Pittsburg, CA: please avoid!! i can only speak for the one in Pittsburg. they do have one in OakTown. check it, ordered the catfish and some ribs. the ribs were very dry and tough. the fish tho, i mean usually these joints have there own special spices for there breading but this catfish came straight out of a frozen, packaged bag. you know the ones you see at costco/sam's in the freezers. the reason i know this is cuz i saw the cook open the sealed bag, pull out a few pieces and throw 'em in the fryer. WTF!!??! the cook then noticed me watchin and tries to casually hide the bag behind his back. again, WTF!!! i give this place 1 out of 5 RIBS.

BULLDOG BBQ in Martinez, CA: cool little spot. right in Martinez's historic downtown. more of a sports bar ambiance than a soul food joint. wifey and i had the pulled pork and beef brisket. the brisket was average. not AS tender as i like but was still good. now the pulled pork, very good. nice and tender. tender enough to melt in your mouth. i will be heading back to try the ribs.(didnt want to get messy for that day, had to meet some clients) but rest asure, i will be back for the ribs. only thing i didnt like was the mac'n cheese. stay away from that side. BULLDOG gets 3 1/2 out of 5 RIBS. (saving 1/2 rib till i try the ribs)

past scores:

CFnR........................4 1/2 RIBS

BRO-in-LAW..............4 RIBS

Armadillow's.............3 RIBS

C & C's....................2 RIBS
