Did Hasbro and Dreamwave drop the ball?

The toys don't utilize it, because it's impossible to implement each feature in each toy. Plus, it's utterly pointless.

... Imagination... It wouldn't actually do the same thing to each toy it interacted with, any more than my toy Optimus Prime leads the Autobots.  He doesn't.  He stands there in whatever pose I have him in, and never moves.  I guess it would be utterly pointless for Hasbro to say he's the leader of the Autobots, when he's an inanimate piece of plastic.  It's impossible to implement his leadership on a bunch of other inanimate pieces of plastic.  I've never seen him take his troops, or my toys, on any missions, other than the mission to stay still and collect dust until i clean them.

Get me?  I'm just saying, it would've added a lot to the mythos.  I'm surprised more of you don't agree.

just my two cents

True, a cool bio, adds a lot to a toy.

I bought several G1 Transformers because of their cool bio's.

thank you.

I don't know anything about the video game, but getting more specific with powerups had great potential I thought, before the series started. Special specific powers would create more interesting stories and give it another G1-like dynamic.

That said, I can see why they didn't do it... the way the did treat the minicons reinforced the actual playability features they engineered into the toys plus the toyline and show got FLOODED with minicons, too many to handle if each had a special specific power.

It would have been cool and they did drop the ball in a sense, but whatever your opinion of the Armada show was, it focused on characters of larger toys and was a huge financial success for Hasbro. So whatever I may have prefered, Hasbro creative did right by their accountants so I can't fault them for that.

yeah you have a point, they probably would've only been able to focus on a handful of minicons' powers.

All I would've liked was maybe a footnote on the packaging...

Ransack

Alt-mode: Dune Buggy

Enhancement: Stronger Grip, Toolmaster Grappling Hook

Something like that.

I'm going to do it, I guess...

*playing devils advocet*

in rebirth they tried to give the targetmasters individual personalitites and depth. did you find them interesting? or useless tools?

as far as the game went, i enjoyed it very much with the minicons actually seeming useful. but their lil buddies that followed them in the game did nothing special but make them stronger. and they were the only ones that had toys. all the others were generic looking and were only there to add more to the gameplay. the game needed something like that, and if it wasnt minicons, it would be a planet key or whatever gimmick that tied into the series. the minicons were just a means to an end.

you i dea sounds cool maximo but unfortunately the minicons were gimmick not mythos....:(

They are as far as the AEC universe is concerned...aren't they?

guys, i'm trying very hard to stay IN STORY here.  No one on Cybertron would call them a gimmick, or "I'd love to get to know these guys a little better, but there's no bio on the back of their card", yknow?

In G1, plenty of the guys were given special, unique powers, and last time i checked:

My Soundwave doesn't generate empty Energon Cubes.

My Hound doesn't project holograms.

My Windcharger can't project a magnetic field.

My Trailbreaker?  No force field.

My Mirage doesn't turn invisible.

My Skywarp doesn't magically appear across the room.

My Insecticons can't clone themselves.

My Gears? Never... uh... Protectobots and moans a lot.  Neither does Huffer.

Now would it have been a ball-breaking debacle to have given a footnote about the Minicons' special enhancement abilities?

There certainly was enough time in the show, what with all the minutes per episode of them STARING at each other instead of doing stuff, to have shown what maybe a dozen minicons (in the whole series) did for you when they linked to you.  and even if not - a phrase on the back of the card?

Wouldn't be cool if they put magnets in Windcharger's hands?

that actually would've been pretty cool, or maybe under the hood or something....

hey, as a kid, i could've pretended I had Mirage the whole time!!  "Oh, I actually got one that really turned invisible... see he's right over there..."
