No, you miss my point. Comic books should be based on the toys, not toys based on the comic book. Marvel Legends are just action figures right? Transformers are much more complicated they must be at least 2 forms and change between them. Thus I think engineering on them should come first. I would guess the G2 toys that appeared in the comic were designed as toys before being used in the comic.

I would be very surprised if there aren't blueprints for how the IDW bots transform so they're always drawn consistantly. 

Same kind of theories came out for warWithin, and the closest we got to toys for them was Characters INSPIRED (by WarWithin) in the Cartoons thus becoming toys.  Thas the closest we'll get to Toys based after a TF comic book.

Blueprints for how to draw something that transforms is FAR from drafting actual mechanical peices and constructing a transforming toy.

 

But again point is, I'd like to see Comic book writers/artists using toys that exist and make people want those instead of making up their own stuff that won't get made.

That's eminently doable, it would also be much cheaper because there is no need to acquire licenses from the automakers.
