I got Alt Sunstreaker last night and decided that the yellow spots on his thighs were making him look totally lame. So I replaced them with the thighs from an extra Alt Sideswipe I had (thanks to Johnny Reb). I also swapped the upper arm pieces with Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. The red arms match Sideswipe perfectly and really blend in nicely. I think it's a nice look for the two of them. Viz:

i really like the red upper arms on sunstreaker due to the g1 figure. you should get the bta version. hes got no red. but the extra red on sideswipe does look good.

I didn't like the red upper arms on Alt Sunstreaker because I thought it was just too many colors all in the same place (yellow, red, gray, black). They would probably look better on BTA Sunstreaker IMO.

 

But that aside, the red forearms are such a specific G1 reference that I decided *not* to give them to Sunstreaker. I didn't see Hasbro make coloring decisions like that with Wheeljack (for example), so I didn't see the need to get anal-retentive about small details on Sunstreaker. I think the gray is a cleaner look anyway.

 

FWIW I do like BTA Sunstreaker (at least in robot mode); I just think it's a bit TOO much yellow and black.

How about the feet on Sunstreaker?  You think it would look good to swap the Sideswipe silver feet in?  Maybe remove the blue triangle on the top?  I just don't like the whole solid black foot thing Sunstreaker's got goin' on...

My Sunstreaker should be in over the weekend, or early next week.  I plan to paint over the red portions of the legs and paint them silver to break up the all black legs.  Also touch up the feet with some yellow. Only because I have a Sunstreaker when I kitbashed the yellow tracks, and due to the ball joint being sanded down, and just plain liking it better, this sunstreaker is going to become a powered up version of Goldbug, to help bring to live my Throttlebots customs.  Already have Freeway, Chase, and Rollbar, and when the Alt Rollbar comes out he is being changed into Wideload.  Still need to find a proper alt for Searchlight. 

 

But looks good, I do the same thing, I switch out parts, and only do minor paint apps when its necessary.

My opinion on the feet is that he's already got a lot of yellow on his legs, which you may not immediately recognize. Sideswipe's wheel wells (outer sides of his legs) are painted black, but Sunstreaker's are yellow. I don't know what they did with the BTA version though.

 

I'm used to the TF convention of "feet and legs not the same color", but it doesn't look garish the way the red arms did IMO. Plus I don't want to give him too much gray -- Sunstreaker should have a fair amount of black on him IMO.

 

Also, switching the feet will require the removal of the heel pins.
