g1 autobots

Recommended Posts

yeah, all the dinobots could fly while in robot mode, but only in the cartoon. I don't recall seeing them fly in the comics. In fact, I don't remember seeing any Autobots fly in the comic, other than the ones who can fly in vehicle mode. Except from Prime, he flew into Unicron in Marvel US G1 #75.

Gears flew in issue #3. He actually flew with Spider-Man on his back, and latter ran out of power and fell down a cliff :wtf . Like the cartoon, the Autobots could fly when the plot needed them too. By the way Yes I am a fountain of useless traivia. :thumb

Gears flew in issue #3.

missed that one. With the exception of the Unicron Saga, I stuck with Marvel UK. The Marvel US comic just didn't do it for me.

EVERYONE flew in More Than Meets the Eye. Later Autobots were grounded. Even Highbrow and Brainstorm who turned into jets apparantly could not fly. The only flying Autobots I know of were the Arielbots, Skyfire, Skylynx, Sideswipe, and I think the Dinobots flew a few times.

Ya the UK comic was sooo much better. The U.S. comic was good sometimes and ok others and unreadable other (Could just barley get though issue 1). Other times the comic made you think what was the writer thinking about (see General decision topic "Funny (messed up) Transformer quotes"). So in short didn't miss much. I plan to buy all of them that come out in tpb. On UK front "dinobot hunt" comes out Wednesday. :clap

Getting it, I just can't say no to those UK trades. I love Furman's writing, the only US trades I have are the ones he wrote. But this discussion is becoming more suited for the Comic Vault. Oh well.

From what I know, They can fly but very limited range or something as compared to the decepticons. If you see the first episodes, they did fly but only in short stints.

actually the 'bots might have had rocket packs in the 1st 3 eps

the ep dinobot island 1 and 2 had a bunch of bots take to the air with rocket packs, so that could be an explanantion

prime in the comics i flew as they showed he had rocket boosters in his feet, he used them as well i think during the underbase, when he pushed zarak outa the underbase's way

Alot of the G1 autobots had limited flight capability using compressed air to propel them, or small rocket boosters (see Optimus in the movie) but their range was limited. Wheeljack had solid fuel booster rockets in his arms, and Sideswipe had the rocket pack, which gave them the most range of the original Ark crew, but the fuel in both were limited. Windcharger could fly by using his magnetic fields, but was extremely draining on his energy. Ironhide could use his liquids and gasses to propel himself, but could use up his ammunition/resources very quickly. Those like Bluestreak who had wings could stay aloft and glide, increasing range, but still fairly slow speed, as they used compressed air. The Dinobots were all built to be able to fly by Wheeljack to make them more formidable against the flying Decepticons, hence they all have wings in robot modes. Then once the Autobots obtained actual air support, (Tracks mode 3, Skyfire, Cosmos, Powerglide, Aerialbots, Omega Supreme), they relied on those with the innate ability to fly instead of using up their own limited resources for flight capabilities.
