after reading some posts the other day someone mentioned that all people do is pine over the most recent versions of our old favorite characters ie: prime and megs. also that we never give new characters a chance.

 

imo the reason this fandom, or even more specifically this generation of the fandom that seems so tied to g1 and primes and megs is because they are the things we grew up with. thats why i still buy them. but to say that things never change isnt exactly true. look at bw. and to a lesser extent bm (only due to the fact that everyone hated it). aside from primal and megs, there were entirely new characters introduced. maybe some names were influenced by g1 but everything else was new. and bm was a drastic step in the change department. but it wasnt well received. so is it any wonder has/tak went back to their roots? thats what companies do. whatever will work and make them money. you cant blame them for making a million different primes. if people still buy him theyll keep making them.

I'd like to try something new.  RiD used OP, megs, UM, and Scourge, but that's mostly it.  There were a few others, but most of them got revised.  UM was like an antihero, Scouge was not loyal, Hot Shot was very minor, Grimmlock was smart and minor...

 

I'm kinda tired of the constant rehashing of old characters.  If they want to use old templates, fine.  But stick with them for more than a year.  Gosh.

Also, a G1/BW type of show would be nice.  Instead of, one year over, new series, ends and new series, ends and new series.  It's nice when a show is made of more than one season.

 

Also, Every Prime doesn't need to be freaking OP, and every Con leader doesn't need to be Megatron.  Beast megs was different since he wasn't really a megs, just took the name on.

 

Another thing, gimmicks are nice, but every figure doesn't need that same gimmick!!!!  Like in  masterforce, or victroy they had pretenders, head master, power master, and several others, that weren't all the same!!!

 

New factions and other takes on the story would be nice also, but I getting away from the point of this topic. :tflaugh

I'm mostly about g1 for faves, however there are always a few that blow me away:

RiD Prime and Magnus

Most other RiD bots

Armada Tidal Wave

Armada Jetfire

Cybertron, well almost everything from this line is awsome so far! Cybertron sideways is still blowing my mind.

 

As for the never ending primes/megs/galvatron, yeah. We need new leaders.

I only collect Alternators. I'm not into G1 bricks or outlandish contemporary TFs, such as Energon and Cybertron toys.

I don't mind it, beacuse I think they have a little something for us old farts too.  I mean, although they won't come out and admit it, Alternators are pretty much an updated G1. (realistic models of classic characters).  We also got masterpiece Prime.  I don't watch the new shows or really buy the new toys (I bought Unicron and the Energon Dinobots), but it's a dead issue to harp on at this point.

Take X-Men.

If I wanted to read X-Men it's because I like the characters.

If I wanted to read about a whole new bunch of mutants in a different world, I'd read Gen13 or something.

And if they do another version of X-men, like the movie or animated show, it's just an alternate take on the original continuity.

But it's still about the X-Men and as such I expect to see them in it.

 

X-men minus continuity and characters = Mutant X TV show. :roll

 

I mean be honest, if you're sat there thinking "I'm sick of Prime, I'm sick of Unicron, of the Matrix etc," you're bored with everything that made Transformers different from all the other giant Transforming robot shows in the first place.

There are plenty of giant transforming mech shows that are already not Transformers, stop watching the only one that is and moaning about it.
