Statement: We BUY ANYTHING they make.

Recommended Posts

Fellow TFans:

What do you think about this perception:

Hasbro produces a toy...we buy it....even if it is devoid of quality/signifance/purpose.

Heck...look around...they produce them because we have proven to them time and time again that we will BUY ANYTHING that they put out.

For instance:

1) repaints ...Hasbro "Hey let's only change the colour! They will buy it"

2) Transformers Rebirth:

Hasbro: "okay, lets introduce all these characters that only appear in three shows, and them make some toys! The G1 fans will buy it!"

Hasbro " Heck Let's put in Scopanok and Fort Max for the last one..30 minutes only! and they will buy it!!"

Hasbro "SixShot...put him in for one scene!!! Make the toy!! they will buy it"

And then we will end the G1 transformers show..they will still buy it.

3) Pepsi Prime: see Satanstorms thread

And we did. :wtf ...infact their value has increased signifantly

Doesn't our buying of this stuff seem so careless?...doesn't seem like we buy all this stuff that has no merit for increased cost?

Don't they produce more of these toys that make no sense/have no signifcance?

They do this because they can. We make is so.

(boy this has got to be the most incoherent foundation for a discussion ever! sorry)

Well we don't all buy everything. :P There are plenty of TFs I have passed on. Rebirth is not entirely Hasbro fault, first off the toys predate the show and all those figures would have come out even if the show ended at Season 3.

Not all of us buy any old junk.

My collection is unapologetically small for only having the toys that I actually like.

Ooh, except for BTA's.

They got me with those. :redface

yeah i buy everything TF related when i can, but rarely for full price, lol. But for me it's because i'm a fan, i love the toys, the stories, the impact they had on culture, and the history of the toys themselves. I could care less who makes money where and how. :tflaugh

I'm with ya on that one, for the most part.  I think the only TFs that I bought that I wasn't satisfied with were C-Override (only because I wanted to get all 5 Convoys from the line) and C-Leobreaker (wanted him because I wanted all the upgrades/powerups to Optimus).  Hell, I was more satisfied with LoC HotShot than C-Override or C-Leobreaker.  :redface

Likewise here too, although scratch out the "everything TF related" part...  Out of the 33 TFs that I've bought in the last month-and-a-half, I think there's only a handful where I paid full price for.  I usually patient enough to wait out for store specials or liquidation sales.  Except for one of 'em, where I had a really bad morning trying to get to work.  So I picked up something (at full price, unfortunately) along the way to boost my morale for the day.  :)  Unfortunately, it was the C-Leobreaker, so that didn't work out exactly as planned either...  :tdown

Sorry to have to say it but this is so untrue for most fans.

If true TF fans went out of there way to buy every single piece of crap put out by Hasbro there would be a whole lot less Energon Primes sitting on the shelf at my TRU. I missed most of it but the backlash from what they did to Prime in Armada/Energon  was intense. You didn't have to be much more than a cassual lurker to know people were pissed.

This being the case and with Energon bombing as badly as it did despite how many peple bought them, myself included they were still losing out big in the overall market. Obviously not everybody familiar with TFs were willing to invest in the line simply because Optimus Prime's or Megatron's names were attached.

The only thing Hasbro and Takara can do at this point is improve. It doesn't take a genius to see the vast improvement to Cybertron Prime from the craptastic Energon Prime. They both may be made out of plastic but for a toy in the same price point you're definitly getting your moneys woth opposed to Energon Prime. Cybertron IMO has been immensely improved over the Energon line with only a few hickups along the way ncluding but not limited to Thundercracker/Overide, and perhaps Backstop. Thus far Cybertron has been the most solid, and fun line since Rid although better executed.

Also with a rumoured G1 redux line on it's way Hasbro has definitely learned that most collectors/enthusiests won't settle for anything less than subpar. We have yet to see anything as infinitely bad concept/quality/execution wise a the Dinobot two pack. I really like it for what it is but to most fans I imagine this was the last straw.

I blame Pepsi Prime primarily for this thread and though I personally think it's nothing more than trademark/corporation exploitation and have no intention of owning it, all the more power to y'all who want to.

I've always been a transformers fan, not solely a toy buyer but I lived for the stories. From the old Bob Budinsky comics to the cartoons. I missed the later years of the G1, Pretenders, Powermasters, Targetmasters, Headmasters. Hell even Micromasters and Action Masters had gaps in the collection. But I never bought "EVERYTHING". Even now when I buy roughly every bot I come across I will say that I am not a completist. Not every remold or repaint or even a few first molds/paints. I missed almost all of the Beast Wars and RiD, and Armada was a void in the collection up until I found Unicron for 1/2 off.

I don't blame Hasbro directly for my obsession because at the end of the day this is just an addiction without a cure. Why do we collect? because we want to. We care to. We believe in what we're doing. I know I can point out on my shelves the mistakes I've made, the things I should have left behind and you know what, I REGRET NOTHING!!!!!!!!

Personally, I've stuck to a very good philosophy:

1) Only buy 1 of each Alternators mold, unless something's really friggan cool.

2) Only buy characters that appear in the TF show. Never buy repaints/remolds, unless they are really friggan cool.

So far, this has served me -really- well. I have pretty much the entire Energon line, and everything in the Cybertron line that I've found. I have my favorite RID's, and a few others.. but I am a long way from having every TF produced.

Of course.. I'm now miffed that the repaint/remold of Cyclonus (Buzzsaw) was in Galaxy Force. *facepalm.* Still, I skipped most of Armada, so maybe that's not a bad th-- oh, wait, Cyclonus was my first Armada TF. =(

No, I basically buy what I feel is cool, really. I love the Cybertron line, that's why I'm buying it --- EXCEPT VECTOR PRIME. I refuse, on all principle, to buy Hasbro's Vector Prime. Not happening. Now I jsut need to get through Christmas so I can buy a GF Vector Prime...

And we did. :wtf ...infact their value has increased signifantly

Doesn't our buying of this stuff seem so careless?...doesn't seem like we buy all this stuff that has no merit for increased cost?

The higher prices don't really have anything to do with hasbro.  they don't get any money from the after market sales.

Well we don't all buy everything. :P There are plenty of TFs I have passed on.

:pfx  I've passed on a lot of stuff. I only get it if I like it when I see it the first time in the store, and I usually don't regret it.

These things are marketed towards kids primarily.  I don't get the completionist mentality of buying something just because you feel you have to support the brand.

Nobody was going to force me to buy that Armada garbage.  I buy what I like and pass on what's crap.  That doesn't make me beholden unto Hasbro.
