Then again, that is hardly a surprise.  :tflaugh

Some of the Japanese (translated) names are pretty odd. Breast Masters only brings one thing to mind.  :tftongue  They should have named them Chest Masters

I think G1 Waverider was called Waver in Japan.  :wtf  What? Did he use to wave at the Decepticons?

I just Hasbro would come up with more imaginative names than re-using the old ones. Unless it is for a hommage purpose like Cybetron Blurr.

Waverider would be a Horrible name for a Human, wich is what Waver was macerading as.

His original name was supposed to be "Waiver" because he was always asking people to sign things, clearing the Transformers of any legal repercussions, but they misspelled his name.

Hell, why not call him Skygarry for chrissakes... :tflaugh

That is one of the things I did not like about the Japanese series.

Why would Transformers need to masquerade as humans? If the show is indeed a continuation of G1 (be it Japanese or the US cartoon) then the Transformers would already be known to the humans eliminating the need to pose as humans.

Back in season three the Transformers were heavily involved with Earth governments so it would be rather odd for them to hide then. (And a vehicle modes is good enough if you want to hide. The whole Robots In Disguise phrase existed long before Pretenders.  :tftongue )

Not to mention that I think it is a rather dumb idea to begin with. If you are going to pose as a human (with a human job) you will constantly be in a position where you need to find a way to hide your true identity. Look at Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man who has a lot of trouble due to his costumed alter ego.

Strangely enough I think Pretenders are decent Transformers and I thought the toys were ok. Not so much as a disguise as enemies see through quite soon.

In the G1 comics, Cloudburst and Landmine used their shells to go where mechanical life is not particularly welcome but they did not escape detection for long proving that as disguise it does not work all that great.

According to the Dreamwave comics the shells regenerate the Transformer inside which is what keeps Finback alive. They also act as battle armor and having extra armor is always a good thing.

That is what I like about the shells, they can give a Transformer extra abilities/armor and the disguise part, that is best forgotten. It works on a new planet but eventually a Transformer will have to emerge and then the surprise element is lost forever.

His original name was supposed to be "Waiver" because he was always asking people to sign things, clearing the Transformers of any legal repercussions, but they misspelled his name.

Doubt the Decepticons would care much about legal reprecussions (not that they would pay even if they did) and the Autobots would generally try to fix any damage that was done. And even then, the damage is not really their fault so they cannot be held responsible for it.

I have never seen Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four sign a check for the damage that was done while they protected New York.  :tflaugh

In masterforce the Pretender shells were Hard-light Holograms. The Pretenders landed on earth just before the neolithic revolution and took biologicle disguises to hide themselves.

The Destrons chose the forms of monsters(becoming the baisis for many myths) and the Cybertrons took the forms of Humans. The destrons were eventualy imprisioned leaving the Cybertrons free to become acustomed to Human life.

The cybertron's kept thier disguises becose they enjoyed living among the Humans.

Interesting take indeed, holograms.

I guess some Transformers could get used to living among humans and perhaps even like it.

Not really a big fan of the whole Pretender thing altogether either explantion either... both sucked in my opinion.

Thunderwing could have a good name for a cool Decepticon starship or space fighter.

not a pretender

Thought the concept was neat but badly executed.

And I felt Finback had character. He is dying from a strange disease that is "eating" him alive and all that keeps it from getting worse (effectively prolonging his suffering) is his shell.

Would almost make you feel sorry for the poor guy.

not a pretender

But on the other hand, Thunderwing DID turn into a starship/space fighter!
