What's happened to the Robot Masters line?

Recommended Posts

I would have loved to see this line go on. Its far better than GF/Cyb even with a bunch of repaints. Just think, they could have done some more cartoon accurate G1 characters updating everybodies favorite bricks with more poseability. At least Ironhide or ratchet just because their original 2 toys were crap. (but thats a whole other thread). And this is for you aaron archer:your just pissed that the Japanese version of universe was better so alls you can do is cry because you suck

If by "better", you mean "low-quality molds and half-assed, cookie-cutter repaints" then yes, I'd agree with you 100%.

the greatest problem with RM was the fact that the flagship fig was the lamest,  to release rm prime after mp-01 was just suicide (I realize g1 prime was a relatively toy but it was made in the 70's)

the beast wars newmolds rocked as did the noknee seekers I also got star saber, but he reminds me more of a gundam than a tf

and although I like the mirage fig, the machine wars repaints are just insulting

It could have been worse, it could have just been complete repaints, no new molds, and all TF's that weren't very good to begin with, like Armada Scavenger or Beast Wars Sonar for example.  At least there was some kind of effort put into Robot Masters while the Universe line doesn't seem to have much effort in it, except to blind anyone who sees the really bright colours for some of the repaints.  Bright colours can be more deadly than a spring loaded toy missile.

So cut-and-paste flame decals and cheap Mirage-esque paint tampoes are full of effort, versus the excellently applied airbrushing effects on say, Triceradon and Depthcharge, that are apparently lazy?

And bright colours...except for some of the earlier-wave figures, the colourschemes were pretty muted in palette choices.  Dull mustards and deep greens, etc.  The few figures where bright colours were used were fairly appropriate choices, with the one exception being Silverbolt.

personally i loved the line and did wicked show accurate repaints for beast convoy and megs; aswell as kitbashing lioconvoy to rodimus primal. i wish they did the entire season one of beast wars this way, but i'm glad they at least did primal, lio convoy and megs.

i did how ever get:

g1 convoy

metallic g1 convoy

mirage

psyco orb

bound rogue

lioconvoy

metallic lioconvoy

smoke sniper

giant bomb

sky warp

thundercracker

starscream (2 extras waiting for a 3rd to be kitbashed into the remaing seekers)

beast convoy

burning beast convoy

victory lio

starsaber

dark victory leo

dark starsaber

black starscream

black g1 convoy

black beast megatron

black beast convoy

reverse convoy

i'll definately get the black lioconvoy whe he comes out and probably get the entire line eventually. second only to alternators in my favorite line list.

Aaron Archer had nothing to do with Robotmasters or its cancellation.  While Hasbro and Tomy share efforts on the mainline and Alts/BTs, other projects fall entirely under each companies' own discretion.

Most of them were severly overpriced for importers. The only one I got was Mirage since I doubt the original will be reissued.

the problem with "Mirage" is that he is a repaint of an RiD figure that i didnt like 5 years ago.... so meh.

I bougtht one - Star Scream and am happy with that.

Although it was a neat idea - too bad it didnt last longer.

did I say that he did? Read my post again. I said that because he didn't like the RM line. And then I gave MY reason why he didn't like the line.  :tfpuke

Oops, you're right, I misread it, Sorry  :redface

BUT, because he didn't like it, we're supposed to be getting BETTER G1 revised toys in 2007  :tftongue

i got Prime (non metalic paint), Primal, Starscream, and the skykwarp/thundercracker set... i love them all and i'm sad to see the line dissapear that could have given us some great new molds of classic figures *cough*hotrod*cough*
