What's happened to the Robot Masters line?

Recommended Posts

Most of them were severly overpriced for importers. The only one I got was Mirage since I doubt the original will be reissued.

the problem with "Mirage" is that he is a repaint of an RiD figure that i didnt like 5 years ago.... so meh.

A repaint of a repaint even... the figure was originally release five years before *that* in Machine Wars.

It was nice to see Takara give some attention to (non-Japanese) Beast Wars in the Primal/Megs figures, but overall I was unimpressed with the line. Too many repaints of figures we weren't asking for.

I'm happy with my RM Star Saber.  I could never afford the original, so this little bot suits me just fine.

As TF collectors we forget that TFs are first and foremost, TOYS!  Gone are the days of G1 when I took my entire collection to the car in my bookbag to play on car trips.  Now we need entire tables, shelf space for posing, and huge boxes to store all the bots.

Robotmasters really takes me back to what toys are all about.  I play more with my RM-10 Prime than all my other TF collection put together.

With all the huge advances in toy design, I think the toy industry has tricked us into buying larger and larger toys in order to make more profit.  Robotmasters takes me back to how I originally enjoyed my toys but with much more posability. I am sad to see the line end.  I only wished they had redone many of the G1 figures instead of rehashing  G2 mediocre figures.

Retooling and creating new molds costs money. How are they going to pay for that without a big marketing campaign? You're lucky you got what you did.

I knew that mold was a lemon - but i didnt have time to look up tfinfo when i posted. Thanks LMH.

did I say that he did? Read my post again. I said that because he didn't like the RM line. And then I gave MY reason why he didn't like the line.  :tfpuke

Saying "Aaron Archer didn't like RM" is a simplistic and misleading paraphrase. At the Botcon panel that showed off the new mold BW Megs and Prime, Archer intimated part of the motivation was not being impressed with the RM molds of THOSE TWO figures. No rampant, hateful dislike for the entire line was ever expressed.

Now my opinion of RM... all the new molds were extremely lackluster, the Beast Convoy mold was passable, but really just a downsized version of the mold that already was. I like some of the repaints better than the new molds. I still much prefer Universe to RM.

For effort/bright colors, read archon's statement, however Silverbolt's gaudy colorscheme is appropriate for as a reference to his BM show incarnation, and if anyone's got a bug up their butt about SILVERbolt being PURPLE, realize, he's still got a BOLT of SILVER energon radiation on his back :thumb

For new molds, again I'm not impressed with the RM molds, and remember E. Grimlock/Swoop were designed for Universe, it's just later Hasbro tried to produce more by putting them in Energon packaging/cases. They're still not outstanding molds, but Grimlock on his own is more fun to me than any and or all of the RM new molds.

Looking just at repaints, everyone has different color tastes, so ignore the bad stuff and look at the good stuff. There's not many RM repaints that can measure up to such cool universe repaints as: Nemesis Prime, Blastcharge, Frostbite, next year's RID Devastator, Depth Charge, Razorclaw, Snarl, Obsidian, King Atlas, Inferno(Red alert), Fireflight, BiaB Ultra Magnus, Micromaster Devastator, Sunstorm, and FREAKING WRECKERS SKYWARP!

:clap

Universe had a lot of awesome stuff!

What if the choice was between:

1. All of RM and None of Universe

or

2. All of Universe and None of RM

?

I'd say Hasbro made a lot more cool stuff than Takara.

I think i agree with Edgewise...

RM-Prime was kind of half assed and as smithy mentioned - a bit of a shame coming on the heels of MP1.

But Overall I think Universe offered a great deal more than RM did.

Although i really like the mini-seekers (i have starscream) and i dont really own any Universe to speak of....(the purple and orange ravage/Cheetor thing... and the Fugly tank thing...but how i am kicking myself for not getting the Black Convoy Mastadon thing)

Is it me or is there just an unwritten rule where "Exclusive to this side of the pond thread A" degenerates to Hasbro vs Takara? :tfhuh

I wasn't trying to make an argument about which is better because I like both lines but Hasbro's effort seems sort of half assed when compared to Takara's Robot Masters. Also I just plain don't like Aaron Archer( i think its his name, he's actually a nice guy in person). Takara has much more love for the fans. Hasbro is all about the all mighty dollar

Things I like about RobotMasters: good selection of characters, new molds, cartoon accuracy, new (albeit, mostly crappy) weapons for most repaints, decepticons actually outnumbered autobots, they are in scale with mega scf figures,

Things I like about Universe: good selection for molds, nice paint apps, Rotorbolt(universe obsidian) and Skywarp from wreckers (still waiting on TM Fractyl and Devcon to round out the team, did I forget anybody?), they made Blackarachnia bad again, Brought Primal back from the dead, well written & drawn comic book.

Things I didn't like about RobotMasters: not enough G1 characters, colorful packaging, seekers lack of knee joints, no gestalts, some were a little expensive, story(only because I'm not to sure what it was about), Covoys loose arms, and the line is already cancelled, allegedly.

Things I didn't like about Universe: the Machine War bricks return, figures coming with minicons who didn't have any minicon ports on them, some of the best figures were exclusives or to hard to find, armada sideswipe mold twice, no G1 characters( I don't count grimlock & swoop because I don't own them, couldn't ever find them), spotty distribution on non exclusive figures, No Megatron, comic only lasted 3 issues, and no new molds, not even any remolds

I would like to see these 2 lines blended into one with more of an emphasis put on G1, and more new molds. Takara and Hasbro together might be able to make one kick ass line. Just let Takara do most of the work
