I'm making some serious portraits of this guy before I start. FF character of mine, and I want it to be the best kitbash I've made. I'm working on heavy sketches of the head right now, wich resembles a large dome that emerges from the depths of Sector7 layer of the city. It's kind of like a dino-faced turret shaped head. The many Sectors will have ramps that can transport mini-to-basic car bots, and a huge run-way fow mini-to-ultra plane and boat bots. Huge towers for certain parts of this robot, that also have many hiding places for turrets and cannons. After all, this IS the Decepticons last defense from Metro-Maximus ;)

Anyway, back to the head, I'm going to start with a basic plasic tape espenser(disposable) and cut out the round part for the mold. Bi-Turrets will fit into specially carved spaces in the finished top dome mold. The bottom half will be made to conceal the face, which folds out of a rectangularly-cut hole on hinges. pieces will fit together and ring, horseshoe-like, onto the neck joint.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to smoke some pot before I do any more :thumb

Sounds. . . ambitious. I think one of your problems is going to be weight. It may be so heavy, it could collapse upon itself transformed, or even still in alt mode.

My suggestion would be to build it using some basic engineering principles. Use triangles for supports(as they are the best shape for holding the most weight), and make sure the plastic you use isn't flimsy and apt to therefore break.

I'd also suggest building a smaller version first. That way, you can test with the prototype different ideas that you can then apply to the real deal. I like that you're going slow, but keep your targets broad.

Something I do when I write(WHEN I write) is that I have multiple projects going at once. That way, if I get bored or frustrated with one, I move to another until I get bored or frustrated with it and move back. This way, I keep myself continually interested in the project, rather than letting it collect dust. I'd suggest you do the same, only work on the head, a leg, an arm, parts of the torso, whatever. That way, if the head gets too tedious, simply switch and start building the basics for the arm.

Good luck, and I'll be looking forward to finished pics as well as WIP.

damnit, I coulda just read your post instead of readin that whole "model-making building principals" book :grr

but thank anyway :wave

This city bot will, most likely, triangular/trapezoid shaped feet. As for weight, It's simmilar to a large parking structure when in city mde, before all the extras, and will have it's own special stand and plaque if all goes well. Your information on how to not get bored also helps a lot :tfgrin

If all goes well I might just have this done in four years :roll

BUILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAND MOLDS DONE

I used strong grey styrofoam for the finger segments, strung onto the base with plastic-coated wire.

Sounds like a massive project to say the least.

Good luck with it. I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress.
