G1 Prime vs G2 Prime

Recommended Posts

Is there any difference between the robot modes of G1 Prime and G2 Prime (the regular one)? A friend of mine is attempting to sell me his G2 Prime saying "it is way different to my old prime", but the way he describes it it sounds precisely like G1 Prime... :wtf

As I was aware of it the only difference between the two toys was the trailer, which was a different colour plus came with a voice box, and some extra weapons.

Knowing my friend he probably has an Ultra Magnus in his hands right now........

Yeah.  If you're lucky though he has Laser Optimus Prime which is  far and away a better figure, IMO, but Op Prime purists will probbaly disagree.

My house burned down twice when I was a kid, so alas I don't have g1 Prime, but I got G2 regular Prime and it fills the void nicely.  then I got 20th anniversary Prime, and all others before pale in comparison.

It has a yellow G2 symbol outline on the back of one of the legs. :thumb geetoo forevah

Well if you want to be fussy,  the face isn't as 'sharp' as the original due to the mold degrading a little.  There was (i think) some slight retooling of the fists so it could hold the missile

launchers.

Here are the differences:

-The blue on Optimus Prime's legs is slightly lighter than that of G1.

-A yellow Optimus Prime tag and G2 Autobot insignia outline on leg.

-Black trailer with the word "Optimus" on either side.

-Black voice box with 4 different grey buttons on top that attaches to both trailer and robot.

-Two spring launch weapon (which can be attached to the voice box).

-Red missiles for the weapon.

-The quality of the plastic of the black trailer is sturdier (just the black parts) - almost a soft plastic feel to it. When I mean sturdier, I mean not as brittle as its G1 counterpart. Plastic quality for the robot is about the same.

Basically the same toy, right down to the posts where you can put his gun and his fists in the trailer.

I know because I've dissected enough Optimus Primes, both G1 and G2, to know the difference.

It also appears (according to the pics on TFU.info) that the blue on G1 Prime's head is a navy blue and the G2 version uses more of a royal blue.  Slight difference, but may be important to true purists.

There were two different G2 Prime's, one was just like the original with dark blue/purple-ish legs, head, & feet, as well as the trailer robot & "jackstands," and the other was a lighter 'anime' blue for those parts.  All G2 prime's had the yellow "Autobot" stamp with the G2 Autobot symbol on the back of the right leg, and the rub-sign area of the original was a hole for one of the missle launchers on the G2.  Also, G2 prime (and subsequently the re-releases) had a slot cut out of the back piece that the legs go into in truck mode, where the original Op was a solid piece.  The only other difference is the G2 Prime had lighter colored yellow eyes, where the original was a darker yellow And as far as I know, none of the G2 prime's came with the "bloated" fists & rifle that were found on some of the G1 prime's.  Beyond that there's the obvious trailer differences. (but there's only 3 buttons on the voice/soundbox, not 4 like was mentioned prior)

I have G2 Prime... wait, so you can put the voice box on the robot mode?  How does that work?

A lot of great things mentioned in this thread.

The head is the biggest give away between the two. G1 Prime has a darker colored head and the mold is slightly different. Hold them side by side and check it out.
