I'm not sure if the changes I noticed constitute only the G1 release but they sure do the reissue. I never actually had a G1 Optimus so for all I know the reissue was the one to change. On the G2 Prme the battle arm in his trailer has shortened missils that do not lauch while the reissue had lengthened ones similar to reissue Ultra magnus which did. Also the G2 release had a launchable Rollor scout car while the spring loaded mechanism was removed from the reissue. That was a serious gyp in my opinion.

Reguarding weather you should buy it from your friend on not I guess it depends on how much he's asking. Personally I would if the offers not too outrageous. I'm going to get seriously G1 Starscream slapped for this but I think the G2 variation is way better coolr than it's G1 counter part. Everything about the alt mode, with that added voice box section and matching BFGs just screams bad ass. Also the blue looks nicer wear as the original was so dark it almost looks like purple.

Plus his instructions make no mention of that either (I'm looking at them right now)

I found that out by accident. Somebody told me that they've managed to put the voice box on Laser Optimus Prime, although I haven't seen any evidence of that being possible.
