Going through my WWII Tf/GI Joe crossover

Recommended Posts

The artwork stinks in that crossover.  The artist needs nickname, Jae "Knocked Over the Bottle of India Ink" Lee.  The sad thing is, the pencils themselves are really good, but there's just black everywhere.

Oh, and Aerialbots are a bunch of Allied WWII planes.  Bumblebee is a motorcycle and Hound is a Jeep, he and Megatron are the only characters to retain their original alt-modes.  Optimus Prime is some sort of railway artillery cannon.  Soundwave is a WWII field phone.

Like I said...some may disagree about the style. I love the darkness.

Megatron is a actually a Luger pistol, slightly different from the Walther. Don conjured up a transformation that used the gun's barrel as his fusion cannon so there was no need for extra parts.

And Optimus is an M26 "Dragon Wagon" tank recovery vehicle...Shockwave is the rail gun. :thumb

Which really made no sense 'cus the Walther P-38 was introduced before/during WWII as the replacement for the Luger....  could've kept the same mode... lol

Yea the Walther P-38 was the standard issue Waffen SS officers' pistol. They sure could have used that.

"Technically, he could have kept his original Walther P-38 form, but where's the challenge in that?" ~Don

Also from the TPB:  turned out that Hasbro (more or less) used the "Dragon Wagon" as the basis for Armada Overload.

I'd buy a repaint of the Sentinel Maximus remold of Overload to have a reasonable WWII Optimus.

If you guys are looking for TF pr0n (aka nice shiny pictures of the bots where you can see every single bit in nice garish anime fashion), there's always the rest of the DW titles.

kthx

Yeah..'cuz I've been looking at Dragon Wagon kits and the only one made (by Tamiya, company that makes a lot of military models) and they retail for a loooot and go for more than I want to pay on ebay now to cut one up. :redface

I have seen the WWII designs but i dont get the whole idea......was this introduced as a comic series with G.I. JOE? or was it just concept art...

Btw love the idea! Allied Autobots/Decepti-Nazis

It was a six-issue, "alternative universe" type of cross-over that told how Cobra awakened the Decpticons and was using them as weapons to conquer Europe in the late 30s/early 40s.  The USA sent a "GI Joe team" to the island which appeared to be Cobra headquartes and awoke the Autobots - then the usually TF wackiness ensued.

It's been a while since I read it, but I don't think the Nazis were actually involved (even though most of the Decepticon alt modes were German) - Cobra essentially took their place in the story as the conquerers of Europe.

I remember when I first saw the concept art in Toyfare and prayed to God that these would hit toy shelves.  Of course they didn't and never would but I wanted that Harley Bumblebee dammit!  And Starscream as a WWII Focke-Wulf fighter.  And Grimlock as a tank.  Man, that series rocked.

Was one of my favorites...LOVED Bruiticus...and I've been a big Jae Lee fan. Yes his art style is...unique...but if you read the Inhumancs series he did...you WILL be blown away. The fact he undertook the Transformers was showing that he was up to a challenge...and his Snake Eyes and Ravage fight...Well...just happy the actually COMPLETED that series...
