Underappreciated figures

Recommended Posts

BW: Insecticon

The first BW mold I bought with my own money I believe.  This guy didn't disappoint.  A nice looking beast mode with a very well balanced 'bot mode.  And he had a pretty unique weapon: a crossbow of all things.  This guy actually looks like a prelude to Rampage, or atleast a little brother.

wow. insecticon was the first bw figure i bought too. first one my best freind bought to. and we both still have him and think hes one of the best bw figures.

I'd have to say Clocker is one. I've heard a lot of people who don't like him. I know Hasbro royally screwed up the paint on his back end/legs but I still think he's an awesome figure.

Beast Machines Mirage. In the year and a half I've been on the message boards, and have read through various appreciation threads I don't think I've ever seen him mentioned once.

Armada Thrust. Sure he had no hands, but he was nice and poseable and he was one of the few figures whose minicon was nicely integrated into his alt mode.

I do love clocker, in fact, i head a thread called "i (heart) clocker" before.

the other one for me would be Armada mini prime (the toy that didn't come with the trailer) that was the onl armada figure i bought.

bm mirage was an awsome little figure. once a series of figure is good and done io usually put them in a box in my closet and keep a select few to stay out. mirage is one of them. clocker i thought was great. dont even mind the paint scheme. and hey evrdazed, i bought clocker because of your i heart clocker thread :wave . also of me hating armada, i did strangly like thrust. dont really know why, just really liked him.

but my three picks are as follows.

1) bw tm2 scourge- loved the mold, the name scourge never fit so well imo. great colors as well. he had missles that doubled as melee weapons like armada wheeljack.

2) energon rodimus- underappreciated or people just dont like him. i dunno. if i could pick one figure to highlight energon as a whole, itd be him. kinda like dinobot is to bw, to me anyways.

3) tm scavenger- since he was supposed to be inferno and i liked him, i took to him rather well. even though he had no hands. cool colors to.

G1 Powerglide

Great arm articulation for the time. Still looks good on my shelf.

Alt Prowl

He's getting slated all the time, but I luv 'im!

E-Starscream

I luuurve the weapon & his articulation. Badass robot Dude!!!

Armada Supercon Prime is a nice little figure with a simple yet effective transformation method, looks especially nice in the Japanese clear version.

RID Optimus Prime - not much to say on this one other than the fact that it rocks and kudos has to be heaped upon its shoulders some more with its immenent re-release in Cybertron

*Jawdrops.* Those are two of the most highly rated TFs period. rarely do you find people disliking them. Hell, I think i'm just about theo nly person who doesn't like Bendy Prime!

Underrated figures.... hmm.... I'd say Energon Optimus Prime. He generally is very disliked, though it seems like people have finally let up on him and have figured out just how much play value he has.

If you notice it was specifically worded so it says which do you think are underappreciated which is entirely subjective ;) It wasnt which do you like which are hated ;)

Small Armada Supercon Prime barely seems to get a mention in anything ever (I may just be reading the wrong topics) and RID Prime is just so awesome (IMO) that no ammount of praise would be enough :P

I will echo the underappreciated love for Energon Optimus Prime.  He is a much better toy than everyone gives him credit for.

Also on my list of great underappreciated figs is Energon Mirage/Dreadwing.  My kids got a Dreadwing for Christmas last year, and my folks told me he was on sale for 10 bucks.  I realize the kibble on his back is pretty serious, but he looks EVIL and the super sharp angles on him coupled with the fantastic head mold make him a serious winner, IMO.

Well... I can say this much.. most of the good ones are gone.

I'd like to throw this out and see what people think... I feel that the Autobots from Energon were generally maligned b/c of the gimmick.. and I'll admit to being one who thought it was pretty crappy...

But I have to admit, now that I bought a low-priced lot (thanks to TFans :-D) ... the replay value is pretty good... I've always been a combiner fiend... and once I got them in my hands I really liked it... my personal favorites are.. *drum roll*

Inferno - Great figure overall.. better as legs but still good.

Ironhide - a true victim of overstocking.. but a great figure..

And I do like the fact that you can combine any Deluxe/Mega with any other.. Towline/Ironhide is nice-looking :-)

My 2 pennies.

Those ARE often mentioned as fan favorites, JFYI.

i agree on that, the R.I.D line doesn't get enought credit they where great figs..

I have a hard time considering the RID line "underappreciated" - everybody loves them.  RID Prime is probably the second most popular of all Primes (after MP/20th), which is surprising considering he's a puzzle-former who tends to fall apart if you barely move him - people have condemed other figures for far less.

I agree wholeheartedly on this one. People often say this is a great figure (I don't know how RID Optimus Prime is an "underappreciated figure" as the thread heading states,) but they don't tell you the "whys" that this figure is so "great." It's floppy. Its fire engine mode is only on par with past fire engine type transformers, its robot modes are passable, but nothing to write home about, and it falls apart easily in vehicle and super robot mode. There are no weapons to speak of (except for the blow dryer in his robot mode and the ladder with missile stuck on it as a "weapon" - which is almost as lame as having a tail as a weapon seen in the BW/BM run - in his super robot mode.) So why is it so great?

I can see the Optimus Prime fans would mindlessly pick him up, but for the rest of those who don't fanatically love Optimus Prime, I can't see why this figure is justified being labeled as a great toy, much less the second favorite Optimus Prime behind MPOP/20OP - which I think is a great figure, but not perfect.

As I said previously, its purely based upon opinion and is very subjective, I think if just one person appreciates Energon Prime then thats too many but this is just my opinion, believe it or not but some people actually like beast wars!!!! ;)

In Beast Wars:

Scorponok that was a bad way to die for a second in command

Ravage only 2 episodes.  :tfsad
