A late comer, aye. I was disappointed when I found this out too with my BT Hound. The paint all matches but for the money I paid, I wanted his whole car frame to be diecast.

I was surprised to discover that Hound's roll bars were diecast.

 

PS:  If you look closely you'll see that Hound's plastic panels aren't actually painted - Laserwave and blue Prowl are the only ones with "metallic" finishes that were actually painted.  This lack of paint is barely noticable on Hound and Tracks, but prettly glaring on the Meisters (both red and white).

 

Swindle, police Prowl (partially, at least) and apparantly Sunstreaker (mine just came and I haven't got around to opening him yet  :redface ) are the only non-metallics to date that lack paint on their plastic panels.

if i get streaker it won't be so bad, god people are complaining about straight repaints, get with what happens all the time.

 

if i get streaker i'll probably switch lower arms with dead end

I can't wait for Sunstreaker to arrive.........so.......coooooool.

I don't know if this was asked before or if any one has noticed, i just recieved my bt suntreaker, i was so disappointed to know the roof and the trunk portions of the car are not diecast but made out of plastic, whats worse is that the plastic and the diecast parts are slightly different in color. the plastic is a bit darker. my girlfriend notices that my sideswipes trunk is also made of plastic. i couldnt tell by looking at it because the paint all matches. does everyone have a plastic trunk on there sunstreaker and sideswipe and wahy are they doing this?

They're like that becasue of balance - the Vipers all have some balance issues anyway.

Make the trunk area out of metal and balance would most likely no longer be an issue, it would be an impossibility.

I believe that it is due more to cost-cutting - both the Jeep and Mustang molds are a bit top-heavy due to little diecast content in their bottom halves.  Fortunately, both have big feet so there isn't a huge problem with them toppling over, unlike the Mazda mold which I find to be the least stable BT (unless you do the "reverse feet" transformation). 

wow, thanks alot you guys. i've been collecting bt and alts since they came out but i hardly touch my diecasts. they sit on a shelve in car mode and i don't like dust gettng in the cracks. i keep my alt in robot mode, i really didn't know the other lack certain diecast parts too the paint jobs have been so good i guess i neevr noticed but my sunstreaker was a bit noticable

It's pretty noticable on the Meister molds (both white and red), which is why I think they ended up painting Laserwave - although, ironically, I think that on LW the lack of paint on the plastic bits would have been relatively unnoticable (as on blue Tracks - Takara did paint the plastic on yellow Tracks).

 

Sucks about Sunstreaker.  I have the KO yellow Lambor and his paint/unpainted plastic differences aren't too bad.

Meh Alt Streaker looks like they half assed slaped paint on a Deadend

the BT one looks more like the G-1 counterpart
