i prefer the US names too....gives them more of that personality trait that makes them free thinking robots and not drones.

Meister > Jazz.  How many TFans like jazz?  That's my least favorite genre besides polka and bagpipe music.

yes, most of my preference is US name. i.e, Japanese name is "megazark", but US name is "scopronok", sound US name beautiful than JPN

I like jazz, the char and the type of music.  I don't LIKE polka, bagpipe, or other music like country, hip hop, indian pop, but I am more amused by people being irritated by them than I dislike them myself hehe..

"We have this big scorpian guy, but he needs a cool robot sounding name so know lets name him Scorpinok" :roll

The japanese names are really just irritating to me (go-go happy life super flame convoy), (breast force) WTF??

I'm all for north american names....(jazz, blaster, lazerbeak etc.)

Megatron Means Great Robot.

Gigatron Means Giant Robot.

Galvatron means Robot who stimulates.

Never knew of those translations. I do know, however, that in an interview over at bwtf, Bob Budiansky (the man who came up with a lot of the G1 names) says that he liked the name megatron because it was close to megaton, a word associated with nuclear weapons, while tron of course is derived from elecTRONics.

As said earlier, the japanese names are the names used by the diaclones, while Hasbro had a change to create names (through Marvel comics) that suited characters in the storyline. My preference is also to the western names, although sometimes I prefer the Japanese name.

I still think G1 had some great names and finding out the meaning of the names often helped me to remember the characters capabilities and personality.
