lol, thnx...i would have prefered to have taken them on a nice black background but i had nothing to work with or the room to do it in. My box is heavily damaged in parts and I'm missing a lot of stuff like the little guys, inserts, and my sticker sheet is destroyed :tdown  Glad you liked it though :clap

GHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA(has 80s flashback) :eek

I remember waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when it first hit the shelfs, I always thought it was odd that it came with lame 60s style mini robots that were supposedly transformers  :redface

Didn't buy it then, wont touch it now! , but it's still a VERRY good find and looks in good condition too!

GOOD ONE  :thumb

What about the review??

As Kopi said - it Seems kinda cheep (and did then) that the train never actually Transformed into anything - the best "Alit" mode is the jet. and it came with figures that wernt even based on known TFs.

THATS MY OPINION!

But from a guy who actually HAD/HAS it-

Give us a review?

This could be one of those recognized gems....

or not

I think the 90 day warranty has expired .... ;)

it's more of a review with pictures and what i put at the top is a bit of a "bio" as it were. but since you ask I'll give.

First off this is a HUGE piece, absolutely huge. It weighs I'd say around 10 pounds. If you're a fan of mdoel trains like I am this makes this a terrific item to own since it covers both trains and TF's! This also makes it kind of a hard to find item (at times). Many Train collectors tend to put a rather steep price on this set if it is complete and in good condition. If you read the "unofficial guide to collect tranformers" by J.E.Alverez (hope i spelled that right) you'll see that he says he has seen a complete train (4 cars only) sell for $400. I myself have not seen even a full set go for more than $250 but I'm sure it has happened. This piece seems to fluctuate in price a lot. At the time I bought mine, I paid under $40! Expect complete sets to semi-hard to find and more than likely most sets will be missing the little dudes and or inserts for the pieces. Replacement power packs (the transformer that controls the speed of the train on the tracks) shouldn't be hard to get, but if you want the exact model you might have to shell out a few more bucks.

The set has a a crap load of little plastic dudes that are colored either silver or purpleish. They remind me of decoys, but look to be made from some cheap plastic.

The Engine (along with the rest of the cars is HO scale) and is electric. It's made from semi-decent plastic, but holds up for the most part. It features 1 side flap that folds up and a small raddar dish that also folds up. When these are up it becomes a type of radar/patrol vehicle.

The box car (what is viewed as a normal train car) completely folds inside out and expands to make a outpost/radar center. This is the second best transformation of the four cars. You also have to add the only seperate piece to this mode, a small radar unit that can be set aside or on the play mat for design.

The coal car is extreemly simple. Just lift the top part off, flip it around an you have the laser gun shpowing. Fold it up and hook it to the engine to have a well defended patrol unit.

The caboose (last car in on a train, houses crew) is most peoples (myself included) fave. It also has the best transformation. First you fold down the front door section and extend the "jethawks" neck and nose. Next fold the sides of the car up, and the fold out inner flaps, you now have the wings. You may also fold the front wheels down and snap the into position to make the jet look like it is ready for take off.

The tracks are the same as any tyco (or for that fact any train company) tracks. The are very very prone to loosing the ties that hold them together, but this is common in all model railroad sets and any local hobby shop that sells toy trains should have what you are looking for under $5.

The play mat is HUGE, almost 9 square feet i would say. It is made from a thick cardboard and has a great and long lasting shine/gloss to it. It does however, have the tendency to warp in areas that have a higher humidity. This can make laying the track down level very difficult.

so overall here is how i would rate this toy (1-10 scale):

Play factor: 9.5

Durability: 6.5

Originality: 6.5

collectibility: 8.0 (this can vary a lot depending on what's on ebay, price, etc.)

overall: 30.5/40

I'm partial to this piece, dso i give it an A+

Do you need this set, no. Do you want that one item to set the pace of your G1 collection, then you need this for sure! It makes for a great background set and if you have the room, set thise bad boy up and let your decoy and mini-cons have a ball.

Ive got one of the transforming slot cars you mention. Im a fan of slotcar racing also, and that little guy is a GREAT addition to my collection, although it looks silly compared even to other G1 figs.

I had this when I was a kid... oddly enough, I never mixed it with my "normal" Transformers, lol.  Sadly, like 99% of my childhood toys, this got wrecked, lost, or thrown out. :(
