KO Megatron

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I got 2 of these guys an' it's all about the same.  $7 for the item $10.50 for the "shipping".  Mine actually look used.  There are minor scratches all over, worn areas on the plastic, scrapes/nicks/fingerprints on the chrome, spot on the chest on one of them where it looks like it was overheated and in the process of melting with the chrome kinda "boiling" off of it almost.  Biggest issue though is ALL of the joints are loose -- as in they floop around.  On closer inspection, I found that various screws had been partially loosened and almost none of any of the screws locked into the plastic threads anymore.  A few of them literally spin freely inside and barely hold the piece together.

I found that when attempting to tighten the screws properly (in the areas where I even could) such as the leg, the die-cast thigh no longer slid out since it was now held too tight in the leg.  After taking it apart, I found the metal thigh had some flash remaining along the seam that was making it too large to slide properly.  I filed it down and that leg now works fine.  However, quite a few of these joints have a sort of pin, sometimes with a flat head, which isn't quite as easily removed or repaired and these are completely loose.  One spot is missing a screw completely.  A few spots have some pretty severe misalignment or wear.  The slide/chest piece does not  easily raise or lower on either of them.

Here are my suspicions:

Whatever production process they used sorely lacked the normal quality control that I expect the official takara reissues will have.  It could be the same factories that make Takara/Hasbro Megatrons running in offtime and churning out their own for black market sale or perhaps these are assembled from reject parts.  At some point, someone realized after they had been sealed that there were problems and attempted to make simple "corrections" by opening them and loosening certain screws so parts would move at all.  The bubbles are half off the card, just enough to slide the entire plastic tray out and back in again, which is consistent with this hypothesis.

The instructions are obviously copies.  The sample Megatron in the graphic has both the labels and his correct faceplate.  Chances also seem good that these copies are from the reissue mold itself if not from the same factories.  The 007's right arm is lacking the diagonal textured pattern just as the reissue does (as shown from Seibertron comparison images -- NOTE: images are the reissue and vintage, NOT the KO):

The left arm also has the full pattern for the safety like the reissue:

Most of these concerns aren't a big issue to me.  One of them works serviceably enough for me to muck around with while keeping the official reissues MISB.  I can probably make it more workable with parts from the second 007.  The screw holes can conceivably be filled with epoxy or such and then drilled with a pin vise for the core of the screw.  This would give new plastic for the threads to sink into and grip.  The leftover Megatron I had intended as parts for another project anyhow.

One problem Dogg.

The shipping is clearly stated at $10.50 for the item. Once you place that bid, you therefore locked yourself into an agreement to pay exactly that. While some sellers might be nice enough to cut the shipping or use a different method for you, others won't. They're not obligated in the least.

How it was packed? Bad. Negative for that alone. The cost and method? You pay what you bid for. Can't really hold him accountable for that one.

Too bad the Negative comment can't be corrected, because only 1/2 is really his fault, bidding when you knew it was that much leaves the burden with you.

Caveat Emptor.

I knew what I was paying ahead of time, I read his agreement.  Not to bad of deal if he would have shipped it as I had asked of him as I stated earlier.  The shipping cost $5 wrapped in a paper bag.  It only cost $7.70 to ship Priority Mail Flat Rate Box anywhere in the US up to 70lbs. and the box is free.

No way and now how would I take back my negative comment on that.

Yeah, was pretty clear he was gonna make his money on the "shipping".  That packaging material didn't cost any $10.50 hehehe, but he does state not to buy on it unless you agree to fully pay that shipping cost regardless.  In the end, the total cost of $17.50 I paid was still less than the 007s he had using his store name which I think were $12.99+$8?  I knew the shipping going in so no complaints from me, at least on that issue.  I saw more extreme examples of $9.99 starting bid MP Prime Trailers with $50 or $60 shipping.  I'm not an eBay expert by any means, but is the commission percentage paid to eBay based only on the transaction amount?  If so, then the real purpose would seem to be for the seller to pay a reduced commission to eBay..

P.S. -- Mine only listed $4.75 through USPS Priority Mail for two.

Here's one on eBay.  Be aware that treasure-planet guy is also megatronmaster88 or whatever and may have other aliases besides.  And the toys are not mint, not sealed, not variants whatever he claims, and I would guess it isn't your "LAST CHANCE" to get 'em either hehe.  I would more term these as bootlegs/counterfeits.  He also had some lion Voltron sets earlier which seemed to be different molds than the upcoming masterpiece Voltron..

:lol Glue beat me to the links but I have to agree with him saying megatronmaster88 might be treasure-planet. The pictures "they" host are the same and it makes me wonder how he can get away with this. The only thing I can say is be careful dealing with this guy even if he hasn't skipped out on hooking up a deal.

I've got to agree with you also DOGG: the shipping method sucked. But I had no problems with ripping, missing parts or even an opened card. Perhaps I got lucky? dunno.gif

And, as stated above by Thad, mine never came with labels either. But it did come with some stickers applied. Might not G1 accurate, but I don't care... he's going to be a different character for my own purposes and the price wasn't something I was going to pass up. For that, I had no qualms giving the guy a positive feedback because the toy showed up fast, was not damaged in any way I could see, it was cheap and the item made me happy.

I think the megatronmaster is a temporary acct, maybe one for him to test his ability to screw people on the MOSC thing.  He no longer has items for sale from that acct so the buyers can only leave negative feedback on that acct without affecting his other accts.  I'm pretty sure they're the same guy.  They both pointed to the same URL for his website.

The Voltrons are a knockoff of an actual '80s mold. Not something just conjured up.

They were special made with cockpits to fit G.I. Joe sized Voltron Pilot figures.

IIRC there's a set that actually includes the figures. Might not be the ones he sells, but could be.
