so is there any color references for the guy in the second picture? because i dont see any pics of him anywhere

There are no pictures of him by design. He's not something we'll be selling and is part of a discontinued project...

I'm half tempted to post some pics of the piece that the drawing was made from but I'd prefer to lean more towards the artistic talents of the entrants.

Tell you what. I'll tell you what he transforms into and you can use your imagination and prefrence from there:

Bot Mode = Seen.

Alt Mode = Space Ship

ASCII representation of space ship. (Front View)

<<<>>>

  OO      OO

The second guy is a 'custom' based off the hard work and design of Don's TWW Bumblebee. The painted figure of it on the net is straight up yellow. The designer has even publicly said it was designed after TWW Bumblebee.

Ok, so you feel the need to add more information... why not go all the way and share the names, pictures, history and some real hard information. I mean as long as you're looking to say something, go all the way and say it.

Provide some links,

Fill us all in on the "real" story,

Blind us with your amazing in-depth knowlage of this subject.

PLEASE!

Big Smile.

Honestly,

What was the point of your post? I said straight up " I'd prefer to lean more towards the artistic talents of the entrants"

What part of that is unclear?

Either way. Post what you feel you must, but please be sure you're doing it for the right reasons.

Cheers!

Comparison Pictures between 'orgiginal figure and DON's TWW design'

http://www.tfmaster.com/forum/viewtopic.ph...%2Abumblebee%2A

Since it looks like many of the parts were not sculpts and repro'ed from gundam kits, it would be hard to justify selling this as an original kit since the design and parts were taken from other products.

As a custom, a kitbash, a sculpt, it is an amazing piece. There is talent int he artist who created it.

As an 'original piece' to be sold and distributed, it borders intelectual dishonesty to pretend it is not based on TWW DON's work.

Seems like you went out of your way to hide the origin of the design... There is a difference between forgetting to credit a source and then flat out covering up the source... it is a sign of simple respect to let people know the truth...

EDIT: This also means to let people see the model by the original sculptor too.  People may be interested in seeing/purchasing the figure as it does look well-made and took talent to create. http://www.jd-p.net/stinger.htm

If you have a partnership and are cross-promoting your original models, it seems very hard for me to see any links to JD Productions anywhere on this contest, post or your website...

1. This piece was never sold or distributed.

2. I, nor Rabid Squirrel Productions has ever claimed that the piece was something it wasn't.

3. I DID go out of my way to hide its origins, and as stated it was so that the entrants to this COLORING CONTEST (You do remember that's what this thread was about right?) would have more creative liscence when coloring the line art drawing made from a picture of a close to one-off custom piece. What part about that wasn't clear?

4. What truth? I was totally honest. I said that I had pictures of the orriginal piece and that I didn't want to post them because I prefered to let people use thier imaginations. Nothing dishonest there.

5. What respect? Don's work has not been comprimised. I didn't post HIS sketch and say "oh look at this..." I PAID for this drawing to be made from a picture of a piece that I OWN that was loosely based on Don's drawing... Again I've done nothign wrong.

6. This is not Don's work. The picture this drawing was made from is of a piece that is not Don's work. Its a fan custom that's based of a sketch. This drawing is about 3-4 levels away from the work that Don did and if you actually look at the comparison post you included its very clear that it is much different.

What is your REAL problem here? Its clear you've got one but I'm not sure I get what it is.

Edit.

You just dont' get it do you.

1. We have not and never will be selling that piece.

2. JD's not and never will be selling that piece. (NO direct links to it from his main page and no pricing)

3. There is no cover-up.

4. There is no dishonesty.

5. There is no problem.

Here's the bottom line Nkelsch.

You're totally mis-informed and are giving me grief and side-tracking this thread from your ignorance.

Why don't we just call a truce and take this offline if you're interested in the real story behind this piece, as it has no bearing on this thread or our contest.

Fair?

Still,

You have to admit my ASCII kinda looks like the real thing...

Smile.....

1. This piece was never sold or distributed.
Yes it is sold and distributed... just not by you.
2. I, nor Rabid Squirrel Productions has ever claimed that the piece was orriginal.
If your using a character design to promote your product, it makes simple sense to have permission to use it from the designer... in this case looks like JD Productions.
Seems wierd to take someone elses character design and then try to have people recolor it... I think the question by people for 'reference' of the original character is reasonable since it is clear to MANY you do not own the design of the character...
4. What truth? I was totally honest. I said that I had pictures of the orriginal piece and that I didn't want to post them because I prefered to let people use thier imaginations. Nothing dishonest there.
Owning a 'piece' or a figure does not mean you own the design. Unless *YOU* made the piece in question from scratch, doesn't seem like you have rights to the design... Buying a resin model on 'teh interweb' doesn;t mean you own everything about it.
5. What respect? Don's work has not been comprimised. I didn't post HIS sketch and say "oh look at this..." I PAID for this drawing to be made from a picture of a piece that I OWN that was loosely based on Don's drawing... Again I've done nothign wrong.
You own the figure, you can commision a drawing of the figure you own, doesn't mean you own the design or have control over the copyrights in it. It seems to me out of respect to the designer(s) of the character, to give source credit opposed to hide it then use other people's work to promote your contest for a commercial product.
6. This is not Don's work. The picture this drawing was made from is of a piece that is not Don's work. Its a fan custom that's based of a sketch. This drawing is about 3-4 levels away from the work that Don did and if you actually look at the comparison post you included its very clear that it is much different.
Derivative works... there is no set number of generations a piece have to be derivative for it to become 'orginal'. Of course that is an issue for DON, JD, and the courts... Most TF art communities operate on a level of respect and whenever possible, make sure everyone is as clear as possible and give as much leeway and respect to the original source of a design/artpiece/whatever.
What is your REAL problem here? Its clear you've got one but I'm not sure I get what it is.

You don't see *ANY* problem with using someone elses original character to promote your commercial product without permission?

Either it is a derivative work of DON's or it is an Original work of JD's named Stinger... either way, the character doesn't belong to you and if your going to use it to promote your product, at least you could do is cite the source when *DIRECTLY* asked by people who/what/where it came from.

1. We have not and never will be selling that piece.
You can't unless you re-sell with JD, which he seems to have a way to do that, contact him... Maybe you could release a 'two-pack' with your fembots...
2. JD's not and never will be selling that piece. (NO direct links to it from his main page and no pricing)

http://www.jd-p.net/stinger.htm

Lesse, Items for sale... AX:09 Stinger... That model is called 'stinger'... link ont he sidebar takes you to this page... I can't understand how I get the idea he might be selling them.

Even if he is *NOT* selling them... either he owns the character design or it is derivative of DON's... either way, you don't own it and it is reasonable to cite the source when using it to promote your commercial product.

Is it so hard to simply give credit to fellow community artists? If it belongs to someone else, for christ's sake just credit it.

So much for taking this offline.

Smirk.

You don't see *ANY* problem with using someone elses original character to promote your commercial product without permission?

I have permission from the owner of this design. You really should ask more questions and point fewer fingers when you don't know what you're talking about.

Either it is a derivative work of DON's or it is an Original work of JD's named Stinger... either way, the character doesn't belong to you and if your going to use it to promote your product, at least you could do is cite the source when *DIRECTLY* asked by people who/what/where it came from.

Nobody ASKED me anything. You jumped in here acusing me of fraud and theft.

If you'd have asked I'd have answered that I would prefer to keep this thread clean for the purposes of our contest and take up this matter either offline or in another thread where I could explain the true origins of this piece without clouding up this thread with all this useless talk.

You think you know something, but all you know is that you don't have the whole story. The whole story is not relivant to this contest.

1. Rabid Squirrel Productions owns the Fan Custom this drawing was made from.

2. Rabid Squirrel Productions has the full permission of both the artist who drew this drawing and the artist who designed this custom piece to use it in this contest.

3. Rabid Squirrel Productions is not in any way selling, promoting, or using this piece to further the sales of our CyberFembots. It just happens that we thought it was a cool picture and that people would have fun coloring it.

4. Neither Don nor JD have any claim to this drawing though I suppose the point could be argued. If Don has a problem with this picture we'll be happy to discuss that with HIM and reslove any issues that may arrise.
