Outrider's customs...

Recommended Posts

After making several customs, several of which Ive described on here, Im putting up some pics. First up, is a mild freshening of Armada Optimus, with a more G1-ified face, and detailed chest plate designed to reflect a few more G1 elements. The red detailing on his chest area that I added just about matches the red of the plastic, but for some reason, it looks much brighter in the pic. Also, his battle mask doesnt sit crooked like that, it just shifted for the pic since I left the cheapo animatronics alone, incase I ever decide to score an A-Jetfire.  His trailer is long gone, since I thought the super mode sucked with that building for his pants.  He's not completely done, I still need to eliminate most of the gold, and do some detail on his grille/chest armor.  I did a similar freshening on his super mode's head, but its not done yet either. Enjoy!

Here's a shot of just the inside chest area, taken off and enlarged to show the detail.

Here are some pics of my highly modified E-Strongarm.  I now call him Skidplate.  The wheels are off of a Hotwheels Mechanix series rally car, the axles were cut down and grafted onto him, and as you can see, he looks a LOT more Jeeplike with the same-size tires and mag wheels.  The dark blue parts were pirated from a yellow Strongarm, who now has the beige ones from this guy. The axe is from G1 Broadside, and the turret gun is from a Power Rangers robot.  I did all the weathering of the paint job by hand; I wanted him all rusty and battle weary because even though he's a young bot, he's more or less of a mercenary. I've got bios on all of these written up, but theyre on my home 'puter which is a Mac, and not on the net.  He's not done yet, obviously. The head still has to be painted, and Im still working on a way to raise his head up on top of his shoulders instead of down in his chest. I didnt show the yellow version, because he's supposed to be weathered as well, just havent gotten around to it.

Bot mode.  Yes, the paint on that Hardtop head was that sloppily applied when I got him.  Im kicking around swapping that head for a RID Hightower head, much better sculpt and keeps the visor.  YES, his arms still transform normally, even with the wider tires.  The first version had the rear wheels too far spaced out and I had to remove them with the H.W. wrench (included with the rally car, you could take apart and rebuild it different ways) in order to swing his arms back.  I tossed that wrench, or else I'd have took the wheels off so you could see how I modified the rear wheels to fit in. The fronts were a snap, but the rears took a lot of work and had to be engineered 4 separate times to get it right.

Here are some pics of Redline, a femmebot kitbash of G2 Hubcap.  I used Easy-Off to strip the chrome off, painted her with an airbrush, and made a resin casting of a gobot head that looked female (the small space shuttle) and added a few stylized bits for her helmet. She's up for sale, make me an offer.

Here's my version of RID Ironhide, kitbashed from Universe Autobot Ratchet.  I completely sanded him down, and airbrushed him in these colors.  Both of his sidestep weapons are here, I just left the one out of the photo for some reason. He's up for sale also.
