Tarantulas

Recommended Posts

I was rewatching Beast Wars and got reminded of thelittle subplot involving Tarantulas and the Tripredicus Council.

So they aren't decended from either of the forces involved in the Great War. Fair enough, Paradron and the Swarm are two groups that come to mind that were removed from general Cybertronian development for a long time, thus it isn't too difficult to imagine another group doing the same.

He's referred to as a "Spawn of Unicron" by Megs, and though I'm sure that's just a throwaway insult on Cybertron, it would allow a certain elegance to his desire to destroy the Ark, along with the major heroes of the Great War, and not the least the Matrix.

My question is, did either he or the Tripredicus Council get fleshed out in any of the Botcon continuities?

Tarantulus was in Primal Dawn (a botcon comic)...in his "Vok Empowered" body (Fox Kids Repaint of TM Tarantulus)

the story didnt get very far

Thanks. Any linkies?

you're right, the "Spawn of Unicron" line was just a throw-away insult. Simon Furman intended for Tarantula and the Tri-Predicus Council to be decended from the G2 Decepticons featured in the Marvel G2 Comic.

Ah, I remember those guys. That makes sense.

So all this time when Megs says that line, he's really calling him "The spawn of Satan"? I took that literally for the past 6 yrs. I dont think that line could have been delivered any other way and not be taking literal.

the thing is, the BW writers ran out of time before they could properly explain tarantula's origin so they used the "Spawn of Unicron" insult as a quick throw-away explanation.

That's what I always took it as, kind of the most spiteful insult you could call a Cybertronian (Rattrap refers to Megatron's brain dead floating head in BM as something along the lines of "a floating monument to Unicron").

I mean if anyone in BW could be called that it'd be Tarantulas. Megatron is almost insane in his bitter inferiority complex, needing to gain the birthright power and respect he feels he ws robbed of due to the outcome of the great war.

Rampage was an accident, he's insane and violent by nature. His actions are more the fault of the Maximal High Council's little experiment gone wrong than something he can be held accountable for. He kills and maims because that's what he is, sure he likes it, but it what he is. He couldn't be good natured anymore than Primal could be a megalomaniac.

But Tarantulas, he's the evil, conniving, back stabbing, malicious, sadist of the group. And one of my favorite characters :thumb

(Sigh).... I miss Beast Wars so badly.  No one ever has character discussions w/ any meaning about post-BW/BM characters.

...and I too thought the "spawn of Unicron" comment was a factual statement, not an insult.  It's totally plausible; if Primus created the TFs that eventually became Autobot and Decepticon, then why couldn't Unicron have his own descendants as well?

Technically, only Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps are the decendants of Unicron.
