Galaxy Convoy has a retail of 5200 Yen.

5200 Yen is a few cents over $46.

You pay $40.

Takara is charging $6 for a few more paint apps.

So why are Takara screwing over the fans when Hasbro aren't?

And where does your souce come from?  My friend in Japan told me he is 4200 yen buddy.

Have your source check Takara's website, where their retail is 5460 Yen...

Aside from the fact I already know Japanese retail prices off-heart, I just checked with Dave Ellis (http://www.ellismodels.com) and he confirms it's 5200, plus tax (260 Yen more). E-mail him if you don't believe me.

HLJ also sold it at retail, the listing is still on their site.

Edit; Sky's link works too..

hasbro is just cutting corners so they can get a bigger return profit. they figure that since the kids they aim tf's at are too young to know any better then they can get away with this.

and they're right

Yeah, but the kids are more likely to not understand why the toy doesn't look like the picture on the box.

I'm an Alternators only collector, but I thought that I would buy Vector Prime.   I decided not to after seeing the stark contrast between the photos on the box and actual toy.  The difference is just too great for me to buy the toy.

Kids, or rather, Their targetted demographic won't care. In all honesty, I didn't give two sh1ts what was on the box compared what what was *IN* the box back in '84 and I never really noticed differences until Action Masters were tapering off. Being an adult collector I /do/ notice these things, but I find myself not really caring as long as the overall figure is still intact. Show accuracy be damned.

This is far from the truth. I cared as a kid. Even My kid asked "how come your Hotshot key has silver on it and mine is just red. I want mine to be like yours" He just like I did(and still do), sits and stares at the packaging and other forms of art taking in it beauty. He also notices small differences in things.

I hated that the toys were no where near cartoon acurate.

He noticed the keys, but does he do this with the figures themselves? Nitpick about the knees, eye colors, etc?

Kudos your boy noticing the keys, but I don't really buy the transformers for the keys personally so I can help, but feel kind of indifferent towards them.

You must have been a really sad child during G1. :P

I have just been told that the price in yen was for Energon Optimus and not GF Optimus.  This was seen in a Japanese TRU.

Besides the point.  I would have glady paid $46 for those paint apps.  But that just me.  I would pay $45 for BTs if they sold it here too.  Thats how much they cost in Japan.

Just a reminder. The toy market in Japan is going down the toilet. All you have to do is remember the impending merger of Takara with Tomi (I think) because of lower sales due to declining birthrates in Japan. Takara has to do more to sell product to people other than children. Hasbro does not.

If you so concerned with Hasbro screwing the fans, then just import. Probably help the industry as a whole anyway. I really believe that so goes Takara, goes Hasbro, especially when it comes to TFs.

Most of that price difference is due to the die-cast parts...

Yes the kid notices every thing not just the keys. He doesn't complain too much but he points it out and wants better. I wasn't too sad as a kid. I settled but longed for better quality. Id like to change them back and forth. I always felt like, "Why didn't they connect Thrust wings permanently with a swivel joint and give him knees and hips? I wish Prime's hands came out of his head lights like the cartoon. I wish Soundwave could bend his knees normally. Why the hell are Powermaster Prime's legs connected(which I tried, failingly to kitbash as a kid to correct this) and the ever popular "Where the hell is Ratchet's head?! This sticker is his face?!"

I wanted Binaltech figures 20 years ago. Hell, Forget BT and MP figs I just wanted BW style figures. Toys that could do normal every day poses. Now because it took 20 yrs im a grown up posing and reposing toys for hours.

this debate is ghey... if paint apps concern you then import and stfu, leave the hasbro versions for those of us who aren't completely insane yet

And let's not forget the biggest difference caused by those die-cast parts: shipping weight. On top of that, Takara distributes their products in a country that is 24 times smaller than the USA.

If it weren't for the internet, I wouldn't know he was missing paint apps, becuase I would never know Galaxy Force existed.  As it is, I only know he is missing them, but I have no idea what's missing.

As for box art, I never tried to get a figure into any pose that was an illustration on the box.  Because I knew it couldn't.
