Tf Weapons

Recommended Posts

I just was wondering, how attached are different TF's to their weapons? Increasingly they play a part of their alt mode, thus being part of their bodies.

The thought occured to me, as I was watching that episode of Armada where Starscream squares off against a Star Sabre weilding Hotshot and has his Laser Sword broken. It's animated as though it's the thought of defeat that has crushed him, but somewhere inside he's got to be thinking "Well Blot. Now I can't even transformer to rack off." Likewise for Dinobot with his spinning tail club, and the castration joke in Nemesis Pt.2 between Rattrap and Black Arachnia (You emasculating Fem-bot).

Beast Machines Rattrap was a bit down when he didn't get any weapons, but I always saw that as him regretting losing his Evil Kenivel days from the Agenda more than anything else.

It should also be noted that I've had roughly 5 hours sleep over the last three days.... :wtf

I would think that the longer the charecter has been around, the more important the weapon becomes. Could you imagin Optimus Prime with out his blaster? Yes, I'm aware he could easily do without it, but I'm sure it'd feel odd. Cheetor without his tail whip, Grimlock and his sword...etc. I tons of people up here who own guns and they swear by a fave weapon, almost like somehow they have become one with it, and they choose that wepon in major hunting events, same with fishermen and what rods they use.

well when you think about it in BW sense weapons are parts of their altmode bodies, so any damage will result in something a little horendous. Imagine BW Megs (first form) if his dino head/hand got lopped off. nuff said.

The old days when weapons didn't have any place in alt modes then you could think that a weapon was just something off the rack that they could discard easily. However the leaders had weapon issues, Megs with his scope/cannon and Prime with his rifle. Remember in Enter the Nightbird when she steals his rifle, not only does prime go to stop her but get his gun back period.

From a personal standpoint, with roughly 5 guns of my own (12 gauge OU shotgun, single barreled shotgun, 9mm Glock pistol, 17 mkII pistol, and a 22.250 long rifle), I don't want to lose something I use as a seperate appendage.

in bw if i remember rightly they had more than one of their weapons, in the episode possession they had to move them due to an energon storm and i remember seeing many versions of cheetor's gun/brain.

well you have to think, some weapons were iconic...Prime's, Meg's Soundwave's...but Cliffjumper's? Gear's? what about the Arialbots? nah...forgetable...

But in Beast Wars, could you imagine Rhinox w/o the chain gun?

I gues the weapon just has to have some kind of stage presence...

Cliffjumper had that Big Bozzoca "I have Megatron in my sights" *missis*

I think thats part of tfs charm. every bot has HIS gun. I mean even guys like g1 Cyclonus or Scavenger who rarely use their guns would look odd if you swapped them. You can see well planned design in matching the weapons to the characters, take for example Blitzwings scimitar and laser lasoo gun, you could tell immediately if he swapped them for Swindle's scoped pistol and heavey machine gun.

*goes back to his old Alternator rant*

I've always liked that characters had their "special" guns...  Part of why I'm continually miffed that HasTak hasn't seen fit to even TRY to change-up waepons on different Alts.  (Yeah I know they didn't in G1 either but I'd like to believe we're better than that now)

I'd say this is more a toy-driven trend than a story-driven one. The post-BW trend of having weapons incorporate into the alt mode is more a factor of modern design aestheic/cleverness (and maybe to a lesser extent, reducing parts loss).

I agree with trench. More parts are lost when you cant even transform a TF without finding a way to keep the weapon form getting:

A: Sucked up in tragic vacuum cleaner incident by non tf fan parents

B: Stolen by a sibling as backfire

C: breaks by getting stepped on or forgetting which TF goes to which gun, sword, shield, etc.

I know you guys and gals out there prob. share similar fates to your accessories back in those days of G1. Pretty much explains why i dont actually have any G1 toys that are really complete (overuse)
