To Nitro Convoy owners

Recommended Posts

So in all concept art, Nitro Convoy has headlights on the feet, behind clear plastic. It looks alot nicer than the silver painted over headlights/feet on the toy.

Well, Some new pics have shown up on F2F about a Dark Nitro Convoy. If you notice, it has clear plastic that matches its cockpit, but on the feet. There is even molded headlight detail behind it. Since I don't own the Nitro toy yet, I was wondering if there is anyone who does own it that could confirm if the regular toy's feet are molded in two parts, with the red clear plastic just painted over silver to add more color contrast? Odds are, this is the case, as I don't see Takara doing a new mold for the feet just for a limited giveaway repaint...Basically, just look at the underside of the feet, you should be able to tell if the molded area is shaped flat underneath or with the edges of the headlights, instead of being perfectly rounded beneath the top of the foot.

tho i dont own him idd think so dark nitro is just a repaint after all

Yeah, it's painted over. It's hard to see, as there are only little tabs coming through the black plastic, but they appear to be translucent red.

so is this guy going to be sold thogh the magazine like SL black rodimus and Fire guts convoy or is it a lucky draw

p.s. i wish hasbro would do this sorta stuff again

Wow, that's odd... why would they take the time to design and mold in that detail, then just paint over it on the toy?? :wtf

nail varnish remover i would of thoght tho ive never tryed it myself

NNNOOOOOO

That plastic is translucent. Any sort of acetone will marr the surface.

You need to use testors enamel thinner in the tiny bottles...just rub the paint off.

Nothing else will work...

It's painted over because then the headlight lenses would be in translucent red, which looks kinda...evil.

Unfortunately, though, they wanted the wheels and canopy in translucent red, instead of clear.  And by process of gang-molding, it was more cost-effective to make the headlights red and painted over, instead of making everything clear, and then painting that.  Saying nothing about the durability, as I'm sure painting the wheels isn't exactly the greatest of ideas.

Too bad, though, because it's a really nice detail.
