Also, it makes better sense for "robots in disguise" to be older and more everyday models, and not a bunch of hyper-expensive sports cars that tend to draw a fair amount of attention.

Jazz should be a new car.

Sure, but something more like an RX-8 makes sense - not a Porsche that one would normally only see on a race track.

I'd be cool wit dat. I like RX-8s.

JUST GIVE ME A SUPER DUPER BAD TO THE MOTHER FING BONE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE.....and ill be happy  :thumb

with sequals

lots

Well it took a while to make the words out, but I'm not to sure I like the idea of it being a "family movie." That is, unless movies like Spider-Man and Batman Begins were family movies.

Spider-Man and the Incredibles are great family movies. Batman is good, but a little too dark and takes half the movie before Batman actually appears, so many younger kids would have lost their attention.

I think family movies work best when they attract kids but at the same time adults don't feel dragged into them. That's what made the Pixar films, Spider-Man and X-Men movies highly successful, and it would be the best way to present Transformers to a broader audience and resuscitate the interest of Transformers. Trust me, Transformers is so far less than half as popular as G1 was back in the 80's. The movie, followed-up with cool toys and an awesome (hopefully US-made) new cartoon would bring Transformers back to its glory days.

T-SHIRTS!!! I want a TF movie T-SHIRT!!!! :clap

Nothing will make that happen. What made the Transformers popular in the 80's wasn't just the sheer awesomeness of the property. Some additional factors that helped it out were the novelty of transforming robots, the post-Star Wars void, the post-Atari/pre-Nintendo video game gap, and the fact that eight-to-ten-year-olds were much more likely to play with toys 20 years ago than they are today. Now you have a shrinking demographic, an increasingly demanding adult fan base, and the simple fact that toys aren't as popular as they once were.

BTW I would hesitate to call Spider-Man or X-Men "family" movies. PG-13 isn't a family-friendly rating IMO.

I have no problem with a reinterpretation, I'm just curious how a 15 foot tall robot is going to inconspicuously walk onto a car lot, transform into a car, and be sold with nobody figuring out that it didn't come from the factory.  And, if it's a used car lot, that adds in yet another WTF factor.  A TF will turn into a beat up looking ten to fifteen year old car that a 17 year old could afford to buy?

I don't mind the family movie angle at all, what I mind is a totally implausible plot hole being the ENTIRE FOCUS of the plot.  (Assuming of course that we are accepting the TFs themselves as "plausible", so STFU on that point KTHX. :wave )  Or at least the "human angle" of it.

Read the first four issues of the original Marvel comic series.  Thats almost exactly what happened.

Good points about the video game industry, I forgot to factor that in. Still, it may not reach the popularity that it had during the 80's, but the reason why Transformers isn't popular in some other parts of the world is simple: Kids have no idea what they are, like for example here in the Philippines, where we haven't seen a TF cartoon since Beast Machines. There was a sad attempt to show Armada, too bad it was 3 years late. Some network companies and toy distributors are very cautious and don't want to jump into every single toy franchise out there, and seeing them in the big screen would help make up their minds.

If Transformers end up becoming a box office hit, many kids will finally see how cool TFs are again. Giant robots will always be cool. The movie doesn't need a deep storyline, it just have to be fun, and produce characters that kids and adults will love. It's sad that fanboys continue to whine considering that the Transformers movie is not going to be handled by some crappy studio and headed by unknown producers and directors. Transformers was also never meant to be some artsy-fartsy indie film which only geeky TF fanboys to comprehend. It's supposed to be for everyone just like the toys. So to those Geewun whiners out there, STFU and if you want to boycott the movie, go ahead. No one will miss you. Better to lose 100 tickets from some idiot fanboys than 100,000 from disappointed normal moviegoers (and potential new TFans).
