Am I the only one who thinks ILM is overrated? I haven't been that impressed with their stuff in recent years. IMO the best CG effect of all time is Buckbeak the hippogriff from the third Harry Potter movie. But then, we're talking about robots -- they're a bit easier to manage than living creatures.

While the hippogriff was rockin' you've got to take into account all the polish that weant into the SW environments and droids and thinking about how well that will correlate to the robots, explosions, crumbling buildings etc... that we'll (hopefully) see in the TF flick.

But you're right, ILM is certainly not the best when it comes to humanoids and living things.

I think even Sony had them beat out with the 2nd Spider-Man.

(I still shudder at the scene with Anakin falling off that beast in the field with Padme, in AotC)

The SW environments looked like matte paintings. As a matter of fact, everything in the prequels suffered from a self-conscious overcompensation in the "don't make it too glossy" department. Sometimes things *are* glossy in real life.

I think they did excellent on the clone Troopers. In Ep 3 I didn't even realise at first that the upclose Troopers were CG. Their movements were so life like I was like, "hey that looks CG but....I can't tell"
