Optimus Prime

Prowl

Bumblebee

Ratchet

Arcee

Or atleast that's what I'm guessing from what we've heard so far.

There is a good chance it will be Jazz instead of Prowl.

No Prowl? :eek  *Everyone in Hasbro HQ faints*

Hasbro isn't picking all the characters, the writters are. And quite frankly more non-fans remember Jazz over Prowl, so it would make more sense to include him.

It would also make more sense for an intergalactic war to have more than four soldiers on each side.  :tftongue

Tell that to the writers of G1.

And OT: you just go on telling yourself that. :D

ratchet cant be a fire truck = teh lame

i would believe a RAC/AA type AUTOREPAIR/TOW truck was a MEDIC/ENGINEER

fire truck - paramedic at best!

Well you gotta admit, it is kind of pointless for Ratchet to be an ambulance, since he repairs giant robots, not people.....

but hey-- it's always been that way, so it must make sense

I thought the movie was going to have a cast of 10 main robots (Autobots + Decp) and a supporting cast of robots?

I think that's what they've been saying. Five main players on each side, plus about a bazillion cameos, according to Don Murphy. And then there are the human characters.

Five on each side...eh, not bad...I mean that's only 10 toys to buy...

I guarentee there will be more than 10 toys released.  I expect no less than two per character. (one big, one small)

Just as long as they don't go the Batman route and make stuff like "Jungle Ground Assault Megatron" I'll be fine.

I guess most people missed THIS interview.

Is Transformers Happening?

July 11, 2005

That seems to be the question on everyone's minds after reports that the live action Transformers, executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, has been back-burnered, while writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci go to Rome to start working on Mission: Impossible 3 with Tom Cruise and director J.J. Abrams, with whom they've worked for many years on the ABC show Alias. (We'll have more on that a little later today.)

Well, it is true that they are going to Rome, but that doesn't mean that the duo aren't on top of the Transformers situation, as they told ComingSoon.net while talking to us about Michael Bay's The Island earlier today.

"'Transformers' is very tricky, because it's a movie based on a toy line," Kurtzman told us, when asked about how hard it might be to turn the Hasbro toys into a feature film. "The first question you have to ask yourself is what's the movie? We sat down with Steven Spielberg, and we said that the action scenes in this movie are a given, but he said that that it's the story of a boy and his car and that he wants to bring back the old Amblin movies. It's 'Back to the Future'…great! We're in! It's a real challenge, because the key to making those movies work--and I totally think it's why 'War of the Worlds' works so well--is to be so invested in the people and to maintain the subjectivity of the humans. If you start 'Transformers' with giant robots sitting in a spaceship flying through space, your movie is dead in the water. It's all about keeping it at a human level, and seeing the amazing things that are going on through the eyes of the characters."

The Transformers legacy is so vast and full of characters, we just had to know who they may be including in the story. "The staple characters: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, Starscream, Jazz," Kurtzman replied. "There's going to be a lot of them. You're going to have ten Transformers in that movie, and if that's not enough, you can go see 2, 3, 4 or 5."

"The meat and potatoes are going to be in there," writing partner Robert Orci continued. "We're just missing the premise for the sequels."

They still believe that Michael Bay may be directing the movie, but they do have to hand in the script before he makes a final decision. Neither said anything about a "two week deadline" that has been mentioned on other sites. Later on, Bay was just as non-committal, although he did say they were working on the script and designing it right now.

Bay's The Island, written by Kurzman and Orzi, comes out on July 22.

Yeah, in case people missed it, SHOCKWAVE is in it.

Oh, come on...you know you want Desert Camo Optimus and Arctic Starscream.

Anyway, I'm still worried about them focusing on HUMANS. I seriously doubt the movie'll be that much fun if it's nothing but a story from the POV of squishies. War of the Worlds, it doesn't matter because we don't care about the aliens, but in the case of TFs, we DO care about the aliens.

If this thing flops, we'll be headed for at least four more years of Animeformers...

Well 10 figures is fine, especially for the wallet.

20 figures (2 per character) is great, the more the merrier.

Problem is, those figures have to carry the entire movie line. They're the tie in to the original market from which they came. Without the tie in, or enough of them...this could make for a travesty.

Not enough figures to make it until the next TV series based TFs. Impossible, unless they make us wait like they have with Alternators and we all know how that's turned out.

Then if they do make enough toys to space out...we get back to TV based and then by some fortunate gift from the Studio heads...we get a sequel.

Will they use the same toys like other movie lines are notorious for (along with a few new molds thrown in for good measure. God knows we need a Desert Camo Bumblebee with kickass flamethrower. "TransFormahs: The Flame Throwah!")

I foresee that it could be a good movie, I foresee it could be a good tie in line, but as it stands, we're screwed so far. Not enough characters/figures to go around, not enough product to fill the gap until the next TV show picks up steam, perhaps not even enough interest if the movie tanks and/or the fans don't like it.

Hell, let's face it, there might not even be a movie at this point. This source says this, that one says that, and it could all be a nice show of blowing sunshine up our asses. Until we see it, feel it, know it...it's not real and just a massive E-Night Viper tease.

If this does actually get off the ground...I really don't want a miniature, a regular, a super, a repaint, a slight remold of an existing figure over and over and over. Prime got shot? I can burn the friggin' figure, I don't need you to make a gunshot wound Prime for me.

Gimme more than 10 characters to work with...PLEASE.

Oh and while you're at it? Take your time with this project, make it a good film....PLEASE.
