I just bought a mib RID prime at a closeout store for 15 bucks... the box is pretty tattered but the toy is in excellent shape, if I can find a minty magnus for cheap (hording RID) I will pass on that one (unless it is dog cheap)

I already have doubles of the 1st release of OP/UM. *sigh* Another missed opportunity for Hotspot colors.

My thoughts exactly. This is one of the best Primes ever released with a pretty okay UM, but why release them in exact the same colors? If this was the HotSpot repaint the late (unlamented?) OTFCC had planned, we'd probably all buy it - even if it meant getting another UM.

I'll get them if a) decenpt price and b) I can afford decent price. Tht way can have Prime, UM, and Omega Prime all on display.

Have motormaster be a Decepticon and have Hotspot be an autobot

 

it could be the same thing as Doubledealer, a mercinary for hire

 

They could have the background story be like this, their team members were all destroyed, so the two leaders decided to join forces for their own survival and benefit.

Well, they seem to have more black on them, right? They look a little darker, but other than that, all you get is a new box.

How about giving Magnus some lame name like Protector or something like it (or even protectobot), with the different parts painted in the colors of the other G-1 Protectobots. The combined form (the "Omega Prime" mode) could then be called Defensor.

See, that's JUST what I had been thinking. That the two were the only ones left and then decided to band together to survive.  My only issue was, what everyone esle would think about that, as it kind of ruled out ANY chance as a result of something being called Defensor or Menosor if another set of combiners was released.

 

That, and I don't think Hasbro is that creative...

 

Still... if they're cheap enough, I'm going to pain't em up like Hot-Spot and Motor Master...

I don't see what all the fuss is over.  RiD Prime and UM are great toys, and like StarScreamer said, now those of us that are fans of the mold but hated (and thus passed on) the Universe versions can get something close to the original again and have Omega Prime on display w/ the regular versions.

 

I always thought Cyb/GF kinda reminded me of RiD/CR anyway - esp. Prime!
