also prime was built to be leader by A-3, so in theory he could have already been built to the potential of the matrix and it could have given magnus new alt mode he didnt tform after he got it( i dont think i dont remember)

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, he changed as soon as he touched the Matrix.  Then Galvatron blew it out of his hands.  Roddy then grappled with Galvatron, tossed him out of Unicron, THEN opened the Matrix and unleashed its power to destroy Unicron.

and besides, magnus was already a truck to begin with. theres no way to imagine him as a much larger truck. Plus, he was not the "chosen one" as to speak. For some stupid reason, divine intervention decided to pick the worst possible cadidate. Megatron should have just blown him away and saved us the trouble in the second half of the movie.

I think that Hotrod converted because he was handed more wisdom

and maturity with the matrix.  His body dowloaded all the information that was stored in the matrix thus Hotrod becoming and older, more mature Rodimus.  The reason why Ultra-Magnus and Prime never changed back is because they had the wisdom of time and war on their hands they were mature enough already.  Sort of like coming of age Transformers style.

 

And if you recal in an episode when Hotrod didn't have the matrix he reverted back into his old teenage self.

He DID became all shiney and stuff when he touched the Matrix for the first time. Perhaps that was the start of the reformatting-process, which was halted when he gave the Matrix to UM. Then, when he touched it again, the reformatting-process was completed, and he changed shape, into Rodimus Prime. When he then lost the touch (No pun), he didn't immidiately revoert back again.

Humor me here, but I'm going by the theory that when Orion Pax was rebuilt as Prime, the Matrix was passed from Alpha Trion to him. So, the question is, if the Matrix didn't change his form (i.e., he'd already been rebuilt as a Mack truck-esque Autobot), would it change the form of another character drastically if they'd been "chosen" by the Matrix? It didn't seem to do much to Hot Rod, besides making him taller and turning him into the bastard son of an RV and a Winnebago. Would they become taller? Get an all-new alternate mode? Get more weaponry? Become bulkier?

If the matrix is passed to a small bot, it's in that Autobots best interest to

be reformatted into a bigger and stronger bot.  If Hot Rod stayed the same size,

Galvatron would pwn him.
