I based it on models, Dragstrip is a much later model then Mirage.

Actually, Dragstrip was an earlier model, he is a Tyrell P34 (1976), Mirage was a Ligier JS-11 (1979) .

Both of these cars used Ford Cosworth V8 DFV engines, which produced around 520 hp in the late 70s.

The 1.5 L turbo motors Jag mentioned were first introduced in F1 by Renault in 1977 in the RS01 (theyhad about 500 hp at that time).  The 1.5L motors didn't start seeing hp values in excess of 1000 until about 1983 or so.  The most powerful of the early-80s turbos was probably BMW's qualifying engines, which produced about 1400 hp.

Most surprisingly, the BMW turbo was built using stock iron blocks adopted directly from the road car.  (They did blow up with alarming frequency.)  Amusingly, for this discussion, after BMW officially withdrew in 1986 the engine was still run, but under the name "Megatron."

I don't know who would win from the Season 1 and 2 bots, but Blurr would smoke him

well thats why i didn't include post movie characters. just because of blurr. he kinda ruined it for all his buddies :tflaugh

Honestly, without a set frame of reference, I don't think we're going to be able to answer this question to anyone's satisfaction.

wouldnt Astrotrain require Tracks to achieve max speed?

Looks like Topspin would be the front runner if it were just a ground race

No, astrotrain has monster rocket bosters on his back so guess tracks are a moot point ;)

by the way Thad- i think its funny how Perceptor and Seaspray were included in your "Land-based" TF list

Thanks for the research

Considering he's a hovercraft, Seaspray should have the same speed on land and water (assuming clear, relatively flat surfaces).

Well, i had Soundwave, Megatron, Blaster & the cassette's too ;)

But Perceptor does have that 'light-cannon' tank mode, and Seaspray, being a hovercraft, can travel over land as well as water.

sorry for being dumb - but how does a hovercraft work?

Are hover crafts filled with Helium or something?

and then there is the big fan that pushes it forward...

there is a frame of reference. this isn't a who's fastest topic, but who would win in a race. you have to take into account who these charecters are, not just their speed eg. competitive characters are going to have the advantage over say gears, who just wouldn't want to be involved.

their abilities could also play a part in it, eg. trailbreakers force feild cold stop anyone from cutting him up.

speed is a factor but not the defining factor
