You realize their whole purpose for being is to CAUSE WAR?

I think a good example would be water in the Dune book, or salt in ancient times.

 

Both items were hard to obtain, and both needed for some measure of one's life (water for hydration and crops, salt for meat preservation and other uses).

 

I think Energon falls into that same catagory: They need to survive, thus it becomes a powerful batering tool.  It has been shown that not all TFs are the same, so if someone needed a special part or maintenence, they have to pay with something.

I can go with this explaination.  I wondered though if there were any CYBERTRONIANS that were "rich" by any means of the word.  I think that in one of the Dreamwave comics they mentioned that MIRAGE was supposed to be rich and had some kind of celebrity status at one time.  Did this mean that he had an unlimited source of Energon, or some other valuable resource maybe?

Self Suffeciant just means they don't need much Energon. No TF has a screwdriver factory within them, they would need a curancy to get seid Screw driver, from a blacksmith that specializes in Skrew Drivers.

Who needs a blacksmith when you are an Autobot scientist?  They have the raw

materials, they can make their own tools.  If they can create the Aeiralbots without

buying anything It's safe to say they can make a screwdriver on their own. Remember, they are a far more advanced civilization than humans.

EVERY transformer needed energon...it was the EVER precious resource that was usuable by all AND it could easily be contained in either cube or chip form...HENCE a form of currency.

Currency is a VERY logical way to simplify barter and trade of goods.

 

The main problem is...WHEN in war time is money REALLY that necessary to the troops fighting?!

 

As long as you have your supplies you don't really worry about too much else...except for...well....watch Full Metal Jacket.

In EoW, a G1 RPG at TFD, we used a form of currency.  I can't think if it at the top of my head.

 

I'll get back to you on that one.

What did the G1's use for currency?? if any??
