G1 toys suck? WTF!

Recommended Posts

you know what did instill that sens of awe and G1 wonder 20th anniversary Prime

I still feel like an 8 year old when I pick it up

I agree. I get sick of all the "kids don't have imaginations anymore" crap. It's just projections we're making onto them because *we've* grown up. Spend a day with my kids and you'll be thinking "where do they come up with this stuff?" My oldest son is the king of crossover stories -- he made up something about Bionicle Transformer Power Rangers and had this whole scenario worked out in his head. He's making up stuff all the time.

The problem *we* have is that our minds have grown more complex, and it takes more to "wow" us. That's not a bad thing. It just means that maybe we have to look somewhere besides kids' toys to recapture that "wow" feeling.

Having your own kids is a great wayh to get that feeling back. :thumb

How about why cant we get a re-issue thats most likely less expensive to produce than energon deluxes for a less rediculous price?

yeah i think Casualoblivian is trying to justify the fact that he collects childrens play things... this is something that we have all had to come to terms with on our own.  But don't be fooled CB, transformers are and forever will be toys

:pfx and the first person who mentions Alternators or 20th Prime gets a knee in the nutsack. They're still toys.

:tflaugh as far as i'm concerned, even the Hard Hero and Palisades statues/busts can't be justified with "adult collectible" logic because in the end they are still representations of toys/cartoons.  Just deal :thumb

Transformers are not toys, they are logic puzzles that are utilized to stimulate the undernourished left brain hemisphere enabling us to better all of mankind.........ah I got nothing I just collect toys  :(

Actually what i think Causual Oblivion is trying to get at is:

Transformers were an actionfigure/model Hybrid

Just like StarWars when it came out.  G1 can be likened to anything you want to compare it to - but (other than the diaclone...blah blah blah) it was quite simply a whole new genre of plaything

Yes they were action figures

Yes they were models

Yes they were Bricks (i am building my very own model fort out of Dautsun Farilady bricks)

They were all these things -

But they were not Action figures in the sense of Star Wars figures or Barbie/Gi-Joe dolls NOR were they Hotwheels....

They were truely "More than Meets the Eye" on every level.  (sorry to be cliche there)

That by definition (again just like SW) can NOT be repeated.

That being said - i think Oblivion is beating his point into the ground

I don't need to justify collecting toys. I'm 28, and have a very large collection I started only two years ago. It is my main hobby, and anyone who knows or gets to know me learns of it rather fast since I don't try to hide it, and I don't apologize for it either. That isn't my point.

Somebody has to stand up for the old school. I really don't hear anyone else doing it so I will. I really get annoyed when people say G1 fans are just nostalgic for bygone days and have no grip on the reality that BW and RiD are better toys. You guys seem to already have made up your minds there, so I'm not really concerned what you say or whether my opposite argument has any impact on you. Just saying what needs to be said.

I dispute the fact that there is no reason other than nostalgia to prefer G1. If others laugh at that statement, that's their problem. I will, however, say something about it.

As for BW and RiD being better toys, I prefer Energon and even Armada to both of these lines. That has nothing to do with nostalgia.

That's fine.  And for what it's worth I agree with you (except for the Armada toys).

However, the G1 figures were action figures.  Maybe a new variety for North America, but action figures all the same.  They were meant to be played with.
