Madhammer has converted me.

Recommended Posts

One day while sitting in the Shoutbox, the discussion got onto beastbots and I communicated my disdain for the beast-bots.  Well, Madhammer proceeded to tell me that if I watched the cartoons I'd have an all new appreciation for them.  He said something along the lines of ..."The show made the toys worth it" or some such.  I scoffed and told him that if the toys couldn't stand alone, there was no way the show could make me like them.

Well being the fair and open-minded guy I am, I came across the Beast Wars DVDs on Netflix one day and decided,...."Why not?"  There was no way I was going to buy them as I had G1.

Well, my six year old son and I are now just into season two and I msut say, I am impressed.  I can't say I'm a fan of complete CGI, but the genre definitely has its advantages.  But the story lines are well thought out.  I love the addition of fem bots, and certainly like the references and links back to G1.  My son has also seemed to associate a great deal better with the Beast bots than he did with G1.  Can't figure that one out.

When it's all said and done, and why this is in the "Toy" discussion arena is because I believe I might actually add a few of these guys to my collection.  Mostly the main characters and DEFINITELY the Transmetals.

So...in the end, Madhammer you were right and thanks for the tip.  It was worth it.  The only thing that sucks, was I always thought by not buying the beast bots, that I was saving myself money to buy the other bots I wanted.  Grrrrrr.

I'm a G1 dude, and I didn't like them either.  Then I decided to be open minded

and I watched the entire series.  Now it's easier to understand why so many

love Beast Wars.  It's the most well written of all Transformers toons IMO,

and that's one of the reasons it kicks ass.

PMd you with some info on figure acquisition being a collector of both beasty TFs and vehicle ones. :thumb

well imo, if your loyalty lies with  g1 or at least the g1 universe, you shouldn't knock the beast era. its more of a continuation of g1/g2 rather than a half assed rewrite. if your a bit hung up on the few inconsistancies between g1 and beast era, then as a true g1 fan youshould be willing to accept inconsistancies; yeah i went there. i love G1 but lets face it, the standard by which a quality story line and effort to maintain consistancy was not quite the same 20 years ago.

I'm afraid to get into Beast-bots because I'm running out of shelf space!  Seriosuly though, anything I ever watch looked pretty good, but I still think overall that the non-beast toys have more aesthetic value.  MHO.

The Transmetals are definitely the high point of the BW toy line IMO. I mean, all of those guys are awesome -- every one: Optimus Primal, Megatron, Cheetor, Rattrap, Rampage, Depth Charge, Optimal Optimus, Tarantulas... you could only collect Transmetals and have a great BW collection.

BTW if you're interested in main characters who aren't Transmetals, Silverbolt and Quickstrike are both very nice (they came out at the same time as the TM toys). Ones to avoid unless you reeeeeeeeally want them are Blackarachnia and Rhinox. Inferno is good, Waspinator is okay (but still booty expensive 'cuz he's Waspinator), Dinobot is poor IMO..... In general, the earlier you go, the less you'll like the toys.

Some of the Transmetals 2 toys are also great, but I'll let you watch the third season before I talk about them. :D

P.S. credit must be given to Lord Madhammer's DADDY who clued me in to Beast Wars... for the few of you who know who he is. :tflaugh

In my opinion BW is the best show so far that I have seen. I own season 2 and 3 and love to watch them.  However I can't get into the figures, the only one I like is Transmetal Megs, and that is because I want to paint him as Grimlock. Don't hate the figures or anything, just not interested in them.  I want BM to come out on DVD so that I can watch the episodes again. I too am a G1 fan and view BW as a continuation. I hope that after the movie comes out they do a new cartoon in the U.S.

wait till you follow through with Madhammer's advice and then go to Beast Machines...I soooo want a Strika and Obsidian figure (and a motorcycle drone fig)

Welcome to the fold.  I can't tell you how many times I've seen people that never watched BW, slap down the toys, but they finally DO watch it and realize that it's probably the best series in the entire run of Transformers and start getting the toys.

Just wait until you finish the end of Season 2, I think you'll be speechless then. :D
