What's with all the whining these days?

Recommended Posts

Fortress Maximus, I think what Deathmarch and Madhammer were trying to say is that there are many who have unrealistic expectations.

When I look at a new line, I look to see if they either tried to do something different, maybe innovative, and have well designed products.

I do expect Hasbro to at least try to provide a new and different product from the previous year.

But I think there are some who feel (or outright expect) Hasbro and Takara to produce a line that is different, but not too different.  More homages, but more completely new characters and designs at the same time.  More Alternators, particularly jets, but still at 1/24 scale and $20.

Some people just expect too much from a company that still needs to make money.

This argument would carry a bit more weight if the same people who whine about TFs didn't end up buying them anyway.

My comments apply to my situation, I usually don't end up buying products I do not like. For TFs the only ones I've changed my mind on were Alt Ravage and Grim, all the rest of the TFs if I didn't like them, I didn't support them.

Oh I completely understand about the unrealistic expectations part Steevy Maximus. Most of the ones you've listed are ones I've accepted for awhile, if they don't happen I've made my peace. Also, I am all for Has/Tak becoming profitable from the various TF lines. If they aren't the animated series and all the products that are associated would come to an end.

Just my two cents but why shouldn't we as consumers expect more? Should we settle for less? IMO from a sellers perspective, if I don't create a product that attracts NEW customers and retrains previous hopefully return, customers it is MY LOSS. There are plenty of products that will entice todays youth to either open their wallets or get their parents to open theirs. As such, if I don't come out with some that raises their interest, possibly pushing the envelope in coolness too, I am going to lose out on sales. So personally, I don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with expecting more. We are paying for a product, if we don't like it, we let our concerns become known by not supporting the product. But in the end as for the fandom and claims about the complaints, etc., well if you do not wish to be exposed to it, the solution is simple, don't visit fansites/forums, just remain a buyer who doesn't interact with others. You won't have to listen to or interact others and vice versa.

I think you mis-interpreted what I meant or I wasn't clear...

I'm not saying we don't need to get MORE products and/or toy lines. Or that the toy companies don't have to produce toys for us the consumer.

My point is that a lot of people seem to want better and better and it has to be the best and it can't have one flaw because WE DESERVE IT, I DESERVE IT, THE FANDOM DESERVES IT. That is my point...

DM -- is it wrong to ask for, say, more varied molds of Alternators? I don't mean to Starscream, but I'm one of the ones who's getting a bit miffed at the number of remolds, which is why I own barely any of the line.

It's not wrong to have an Opinion on anything MG. I agree that since there are so many Remolds it makes the line Stale and fairly "Meh" at times, but I understand the point of Remolds for the Alternators toy line.

I'm not stating that everyone should accept everything as pure gold, and for the last time I repeat:

Anyone has to right to hate or like anything they want and to be upset over whatever they want to.

My point is we don't Deserve a lot of what we get that is extremely good, but we get it...Alternators included.

And sure there are crap toys, flaws, and pointlessness in every single toy line ever made by Hasbro. Nothing is 100% perfect and yet it seems a lot of people go around expecting we should have 100% perfection because we are the Fandom and that the Fandom rules over Hasbro solely. It is those people I speak of.

It is okay to whine and cry about stuff once in a while, particularly when things go completely sour for toys that could have been the best things ever (Not talking about anything in Particular).

Amen to the first post. I've been a fan of TF since the beginning in '84, and I think TF is just getting better and better. If anything's bringing the brand down, it's the contstant ramblings of G1 purists. Hasbro must be doing things right if figures are hard to find. Don't blame Hasbro for that, blame the good people who buy them like me *looks at his Alt Tracks*

I don't care if today's TF differs from G1. G1 had it's flaws to. Today's TF (Armada, Energon, GF, Alts) are just better. Even the so-called "crap figures" are better than G1. I for one don't care if the reissues ever come back.

As for all the complaints, I'm sure there are things the complainers like about the new TF, but just don't mention them. If I were one of the head guys at Hasbro I'd steer clear of message boards too. I'd hate to put out figures for people who don't appreciate it. I'm just glad they haven't shut down TF out of spite.

My one complant I can be acused of having is people calling themselves TF fans and using the word "HasbroHasbroHasbroHasbroHasbro". Hasbro did they're best to revive the corpse that was Transformers and bring it back to glorious life and now it looks as if it will never die again. TF and G.I.Joe are the only ones to survive after all the other '80s comebacks died a second time.

Never mind the last paragraph. It looks like that nasty word is censored here. Kudos to whoever thought of that idea. Genious.

I must be desensitized or something because I barely notice all the Starscreaming going about and if I do I normally ignore it and move on.

Though I find legitamite reasons for most of the complaining the only one that really applies to me is the piss poor distribution in my area. Some of you who have a steady supply of Energon/Universe/Alts don't know how lucky you are. I basically have to drive a hundred and some miles just to find anything beyonde last Summers Energon Deluxes. There's also no guarantee I'll even find what I'm looking for when I get there. Not to come off as exceptionally bitchy but continuous dissapointments wear a person down.

As for anything else deemed worthy to Starscream about I'm not a completist so if I like it I'll buy it and if I don't it stays on the shelf. So far I've been exceptionally impressed by what Has/Tak has done with the Energon/Universe lines and though the Alts are excellent as well I've decided to put it on "Hiatus" because of the lack of availability.  The complaints about GF/C IMO don't make sense to me in the least. Though some are hit, and miss this line looks like it will exceed anything Energon did, and if that's not for both child/fanboy appeal I don't know what is.

Though I think Has/Tak has done an excellent job reviving the franchise from what it was, there will always be room for improvements and fine tuning but for now I personally like to enjoy thes toys for what they are not what people expected them to be.

Also Has/Tak really has no obligation to inform the fandom of anything they do or put out. It's bad enough for them protos are being leaked out on Ebay before the final colours are even chosen. If they do feel the public needs to be informed there is such a thing as a press release.
