He's Rodimus Convoy in Japan so I call mine Rodimus Prime as that was the orginal intent

Cuz the name Hot Rod was taken by Mattel. So the best name Hasbro could come up with was Rodimus from Rodimus Prime. They could not call him Hot Rod cuz Hotweels already liscensed the name...

That wouldn't have happened if Hasbro wasn't so short-sighted when it came to their own copyrights.

Well for one thing we don't know if he'll become leader, but according to Japanese Continuty, it is the original Rodimus Convoy returning. So if you want to look at it, its like this: Hot Rod, a young warrior, becomes the leader Rodimus Prime. When Optimus Prime returns, he goes back as Hot Rod. As he has gotten older and wiser as Hot Rod he now goes by the name Rodimus.

I like that explanation, but I still wish Rodimus had a longer time to lead the Autobots. I know some people do not like him, I do not love him, but I still think he was a capable leader who was respected.

The way I have understood things is that in the Japanese Superlink story line there are more than just one "team" of Autobots. They are the rebel faction in the war, and therefor operate in cells. In the first episode of Energon, Ironhide becomes very excited when he finds out that he will be part of Optimus's team (if I remember correctly).

 

So with "Convoy" being the name of the "general officers" in the Autobot army the Superlink character "Rodimus Convoy" leads another cell of soldiers (much like how Ultra Magnus did at times in G1) that includes Red alert (or Prowl here in the states).

 

Hasbro has a policy that basicly says Megatron will lead the Decepticons (which is why it's Megatron here and Galvatron in Japan), and Optimus Prime will lead the Autobots. If they start putting the "Prime" rank on other characters it would potentially confuse the younger members of the audience.

Take his suggestion at a possible theory or not, but don't make crude accusations as such.
