:clap :clap

The Transformers are divided into two groups of robots, one led by Optimus Prime, which believes in tolerance and the sanctity of life, the other by Megatron, which espouses survival of the fittest and the extermination of biological life.

Very nice, very very nice!

I don't know if I agree that those descriptions fit Op and Megs. It seems like they are framing the opposition between the two as one of religious morality. The "sanctity of life" catch phrase in particular is something largely associated with the extreme right's anti-abortion agenda. Then they seem to use "survival of the fittest," a Darwinian principle closely linked to evolution, as some sort of description of why Megatron is evil.

I always saw the fundamental difference between the Autobots and Decepticons as being more closely linked to forms of government. The Autobots believe that all beings have the right to freedom and self-government, whereas the Decepticons believe they have the right to impose their dictatorship over all things. There is some "might makes right" philosophy in there, of course, but that is the means, rather than the end, of the Decepticons' philosophy.

I was thinking of the North vs. South when I read that. But then again, they did have a type of Civil War.

Well, it was written by a newsite that helps to propogate these divionist views to better sell their "information." :roll (@ CNN, not RB)

Nice pickup on the terminology, RB. Without getting too far into the political, the usual Optimus stance is that every sentient being has the right to freedom, which would exclude some of the beings that the "right to lifers" hope to protect.

Actually, its a Reuters article.

ARGH will someone take the politics out of this? This is the same blurb that's been posted in every other news article about the TF movie. Anyway, go ask the Germans if the right to life is a bad thing. :roll

oops, didn't mean for it to sound religio-political. Just thought it was nice to read it with out having the author's 'groaning' all over the article. :roll

know whatta mean?

Interesting point though. But people will paint what they want on any canvas. So in the end, it's up to you to decide what these characters mean to you. I always kind of viewed the Autobots as freedom fighters, like the Scots in Braveheart.
