it was a hit, yes. but not as big as transformers. the toys were better because of their transformations. GI Joe was just another action figure line

Traditionally GI Joe has been a far more successful line than Transformers for Hasbro.

i see. well, i hate GI Joe. too normal for my taste.

Some say...

It was too Expensive to Re-Issue in the line at the point in time that the toy line was floundering in sales.

Others say...

Hasbro was too afraid to produce this toy for fear of getting caught up in very low sales.

So all-in-all it's close to the same rumored/suggested reasoning.

I have no concrete proof, sense I don't think Hasbro ever commented on it directly.

EDIT --- "commented on it directly."

IT was referring to WHY Hasbro didn't make a Re-Issued Soundwave.

A lot of the "too expensive" part comes from the fact TRU routinely upped the MSRP by roughly double on all reissues.  Soundwave would have likely been $50-$60, which is just too expensive for the average toy buyer.

Plus, the reissue line has been on the rocks since well before Takara even announced Soundwave or the Minibots (both of which would have done well IMO).

That was my point...that's why I said the line was floundering by the time Soundwave would have been considered.

G.I.Joe is has always been an incredible hit among collectors and kids. G.I.Joe initially made more money than TF's supposedy, so it's a hit.

Oh and Zoids was a big hit for kids when it first came out. They were having extremely great sales of them early on.

And a hit for you is not a hit in the production and sales area.

I agree with the Don, GI Joe has definitely been more of a success that Transformers. GI Joe has been able to stick around without really reinventing itself. TFs have gone through so many changes since G1. Pretenders SUCK!

The G1 reissues were and still are a great idea. I think Hasbro would have had better success if they marketed these toys to adults and dropped the price. 30-40 dollars for a toy that cannot be chromed, have full smokestacks, & not even shoot missiles is a waste of dinero. Kids already had Armada & Energon to please them. What kid without a 25-30 year old brother would regularly buy G1 toys? I still remember when 20th Prime was out, I was at a local Walmart last summer with one in my hand. A small kid strolls by with Energon figs in his hand and asks, "Why would someone pay 60 dollars for an Optimus Prime that doesn't even look right." I asked what he meant and he pointed to Energon Prime. I told him that 20th Prime was what original Prime looked like years ago. He looked puzzled and ran off to show his mom what Energon basics he found. As I walked off I began to think, "How does he even know what Energon Prime looks like...that show comes on like at 6:30 in the morning here?" If a kid think 20th Prime looks worse then Energon Prime, then pricey child-proof G1 reissues were doomed to fail.

Takara did it and continues to do it right. The only reason I bought the Hasbro version was b/c they kept going on sale. Besides until Takara comes out with the other seekers, I am glad I got Skywarp & Thundercracker.

very nicely said. and you bring up great points. another flaw in hasbro. marketting them to kids. only we, who grew up watching G1, would likely have reasons for getting these figures. kids like super awesome robots with articulation and  cool features. i just want some familiar characters. and besides, G1 characters have cool features too. onbly the ones hasbro gave us suck. nothing cool in an autobot car. but it's because smokescreen, silverstreak, prowl, etc were familiar to us is why we would buy them.

of course i'm just glad i have megatron and only payed $20.00 for him. BOOYAH! i feel really sorry for those who wasted $100.00 on him

and what's the deal with Predaking's price?

and what's the deal with Predaking's price?

Predaking is made of 5 figures originally priced at $10 each. For reissues the $10 figures are $30, so 5x30=$150.
