Distribution in China may have been different. There's nothing 'fishy' about it fact is these were being sold at retail in China in the early nineties.

I Purchased one G1 MOSC protectobot(First Aid) from someone from the UK. He claimed it was an original. But it was a Chinese version. I opened it and here's what I found:

Same stickers as the US version

Poor paint job, has some red stains

Not exactly the same color as the US version

 

this was the case for one figure, can it be that all the Chinese versions suffer from QC problems? I don't know. Anyways... I rather prefer US or Jap versions...

Yeah, it's the Chinese version. This guy's been selling them on eBay for at least 4 years.

 

Wether they're unlicensed or not is still up for debate in my mind, as we had several of those Chinese versions avaliable in the UK through major TF retailers (Woolworths).
